shows that Kenneth MacAlpin was King of the Picts. Period. There was no treason by MacAlpin. Rather, it was a matter that his youngest son and successor Aed, a regent weakened by Viking conquests, was usurped by a Gael named Giric through a coup d'etat and who sent MacAlpin's grandsons Donald II and Constantine II of Scotland to Ireland where they became assimilated into Gaelic culture. Constantine and Donald returned to remove the usurper but did not undo the Gaelic assimilation process started by the ursurper. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.234.179.52 (talk) 09:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
As you can see, there was no genocide of the Picts. Rather, the modern day Scottish are descendents of Scots and Picts but their culture derives mostly from the Scots. DNA tests have shown that the Scottish are the group which most resembles the Irish but the resemblance is not complete:

The difference can be attributed in part to Pictish ancestry. BTW, genocide is not the best method to wipe out a culture. Unless it is complete, the survivors will cling to their culture ever more strongly. The essential key in wiping out a culture is to impose one's language! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.71.55.153 (talk) 17:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
