IMPORTANT: Help make it not look like an advertisement
Yo, Achiel here. We need to figure out how to make this not look like an advertisement before this gets perma-deleted off Wikipedia. The whole thing already looks like a game wiki article, but now an advertisement? I dunno how to really fix that. - Achiel (talk) 12:31, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

zh/en cross translation
I suggest someone should cross translate the Chinese and English version of this article (Japanese/Korean would be nice too, pity that I don't know them).--Kakurady 12:05, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know any chinese at all, but I could try to add more info (titles list, NPC's, maps, etc.) from other sources, like the japanese Mabinogi Wiki... when I have a little time :)
- I think the article structure could use some changes though. In any case, it would be nice to have as much info as possible, but if the english version will be released soon, I think it will be easier... 0cm 20:25, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I am a Chinese, and if you like I would translate some materials. I think some changes in generations could be added. Lugiadoom 09:33, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

List of things that could be added?
Please add to the list and contribute with a write-up if you can?
- Monster overview
- Title list
- Dungeon list
- Enchant scroll info
- Minigame info
- Item repair/upgrade overview
- PvP
- Marriage system
0cm 18:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia first and foremost, and not a game guide. I can't see anything other than PvP being added to the article. --Wafulz 19:25, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Mentioning game features isn't exactly a game guide, I think. I'm mostly going by the information present on the korean/japanese/chinese articles (please see them and let me know what you think) and important/notable game features. (They also have specific server and update info, for instance, but that would be a little tricky to work into the english page, granted that there isn't an english service yet? :p) 0cm 19:47, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Wafulz is currently right, Monster overview, Title list, Dungeon list, Enchant scroll info, ect. except PvP being added to it. However, for the game features, we already have something in relation to titles, dungeons, and others I believe.... --Achiel 05:20, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Looking at other game articles (World of Warcraft, for instance), I'd say there's still info that could be added. Not saying that you'd have to, for example, explain step-by-step how to repair items or everything on enchant scrolls, but mentioning this would help people understand what kind of features are available. Enchant was a big update, btw? I don't see how mentioning PvP is more relevant than letting people know that their characters can get married. But I guess if people are happy with how the article is right now, I won't add any more info. Oh, about the continent move, it's free in the japanese version too :) 0cm 01:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- The point is that it would have to be relevant out-of-universe stuff. For example, a list of classes selectable is alright (if kept brief and to the point- ie, don't go in and tell me all the advantages/disadvantages). However, a list of monsters is a little overboard. Keep in mind that WoW is one of the most major games in existence today, and having a list of its classes is not going over well. The best rule of thumb I can think of for this is the following: If you can use it as a strategy guide, then it probably doesn't belong- any in-universe information should be kept very brief and to the point. --Wafulz 02:57, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, excuse me for being mistaken about the "Continent Move" I always believed something like that was a luxury to the game and would be available to those with a paid service, besides, the people shouldn't be lazy and take the boat ride in the game. EDIT: Don't know about PvP being notable, but PvP areas are activated in dungeons using their respective Battle coins for the certain dungeon --Achiel 07:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is free to use on the Chinese server, too. I thought that Continent Move is not a necessity, but the ship port is at the southmost of the continent; imagine having to run all the way south without a horse. --Kakurady 09:39, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, people have ways of getting around running all the way there. It usually has to do with the involving of the Housing area and Return Coupons. Oh well, I guess it's better off that way. --Achiel 10:21, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- Like someone points out on the WoW talk page, it depends on what each person's idea of a game guide is. I never said I'd like to see a full monster list though, I mentioned a monster overview (a bit more elaborate than it is now). I also didn't imply that each of those topics would have to be a new section on their own. But I'd say mentioning them could be useful. I stopped playing Mabi for a while and then picked up after the huge Iria update, I didn't realize there was a continent move option and actually walked all the way to the ship a few times! Yes, continent move <> very useful! :D 0cm 19:10, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Starting a Wiki without me
So this is what everyone has been doing? Why haven't anyone told me about this? But on subject I can add info on each generation mainstream plot, but that will force me to have to introduce npcs also (alot of "normal" npcs are needed for mainstream plot). Also in Iria they have Mana Gates, not Sun Gates.
Also shouldn't there be a section for the english population of the foeign versions. --Herro Yaki 9:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think everyone calls them sungates (mana tunnels) because they're the opposite of the already existing moongates The english speaking population figures might be tricky to come by, no? 0cm 19:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- It may be desireable to put NPCs into a seperate article.--Kakurady 06:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Housing (castles/homes)
Does anyone know if housing has been implemented yet? It hasn't in the japanese version, at least I don't think so, but maybe the korean version has this feature already? Seems to be interesting, especially the castle taxes, hooray for feudalism! ;) 0cm 16:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The Chinese and Taiwanese servers have implemented housing, and since everything has to be implemented in the Korean version before going global, I'd say yes... but one exception: Mabingi Knight Fight (that's what they are nameing the Chinese version - I'll have to say this name is so lame, The Paladin War might be better) is the first version to have PvP combat and PvP ranking outside arenas (as much as two channels out of four at Nao Server is dedicated to PvP), while the Korean version will not have PvP ranking before G5S3, and only 1-on-1 is allowed, similar to Pet vs. Pet system currently implemented (i.e. you cannot WindMill a dozen players standing on the enterance of dungeon, mass killing them all).--Kakurady 04:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- As for the castles, it is a very interesting system. First, guilds bid for the castles (mininum bid is one million gold - but the highest on our server is like a hundred MGs), then they collect building material (the system does the actual "building"). Then the guild can choose to build houses on the threehundredsomething pieces of land. (If the land have previously owned houses the newly in control guild can choose whether to keep them or destroy them.)
- Built houses can then be leased to players (who have purchased double storage play package). The player with the highest bid gets the house. Then you'll have to pay the taxes (it is more rent than taxes) from the second week of acquiring the house.
- The tax rate can be set from 10%-90%, in increments of 10%, however the system always get 10% of your bid price from the taxes, and the guild get what's left over. The taxes are paid until a week before the player stops to own the house, at which point the system returns their bid money. So you actually only pay (number of weeks owing the house -2)* bid price * tax rate (though you need as much as that plus 100% of your bid price), and the guild gets (number of weeks owing the house -2)* bid price * (tax rate - 10%). The cost of a house can be some two to ten thousand golds.
- Houses can be used as a gallery, a shop, or whatnot.
- A brownie is fixed (position-wise) in the middle of the house and he cannot be moved. This one provides the functionalities of guestbook and address confirming. Additional brownies can be hired to provide goods.
- Houses have their own, dedicated channel (normally hidden in the channel selection dialog), which is curiously named "house" (all lower case, in English - shown as Channel 0 in the in-game independent messaging system).
- One of the bosses of the Senmag Plains Castle Dungeon is an Incubus. The dungeon can only be entered by purchasing a pass from the (only) castle guard, the price of the pass can be set by the guild in control of the castle.
- Maybe someone can do a cleanup of above text and put it into the article.
- Trivia: Operating under the name of TianCity, Shanghai Posts and Telecommunication Technologies Co. Ltd. (rumours says that it is owned by a company called Le Xian, which in turn is a joint venture between Nexon and a Chinese company) is known for its [high-quality | totally @#%^*!] translations. Some examples I have recently seen include "Shakespeare Fibers" for shark's fin soup, misteranslating Chocolate brownies as Brownie Elves (lit.: puppet dolls), and Pixel Dark 1.1 (Pixel Shader 1.1).

About the skill of Paladin
Now there's someone talking about the paladin skills. "other skills are avaliable anytime and you just need to finish the collecting of pages of the book of paladin", but i remember this quest is avaliable in G3S4, if i haven't forgotten..? 210.0.211.153 00:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Cleaning up a bit
I tried the best I can to get rid of excessive information already said, and to get rid of most of the first/second person statements in the article. --Achiel 02:07, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's cool. I hate it when people mark something that needs correction but never bother to fix any of it! I think this article could also use a word or two about the actual game engine (that it's cel-shaded and so on). I thought the dungeon info fell under the game guide policy? All those stars just seem copy-pasted from another site :P Also, it seems no one added the info about housing, left above? Please do if you have some time. 0cm 23:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Rearranged
I've changed the order of a couple of things (mostly, the summary and gameplay sections). Please check it out if you can and fix anything that's "not quite right". Oh, and please verify/fix the release dates on the info box, if you can! Another thing, isn't the "summary" already the first paragraphs of the article before the index of contents? Should the contents of the summary be moved up and disappear as a section? Only a thought. 0cm 18:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Multiplayer
Where is the multiplayer aspect of this game? Is there any player-player interaction?--ZayZayEM 05:52, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Did you actually read the article?
From the article: "As in many other MMORPG's, player characters can get married in-game, by requesting this to a marriage NPC. (...)
Other features worth mentioning are the friend, party and guild systems. Guild creation requires the purchase of an extended play package from the game store. Guilds can expand/level up by meeting an increasing quota of points (called Guild Points, or GP), which are earned by the guild's members by staying in-game. PvP combat is also possible in special arenas." Dungeon exploration in party mode is also available and... mentioned in the article. 0cm 21:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- The Korean servers also have PVP combat. First there were designated arenas for PVP; next came PVP combat between paladins and dark knights (available anywhere, AFAIK). I think there's also elves vs. giants, but I've never played a giant so I'm not sure. --Kjoonlee 21:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
How should we put this in a more encyclopedia-ish...?
So, how would we put this into a more encyclopedia-ish standard for wikipedia? I couldn't think of anything except for taking out the skills and the day information. --Achiel 23:52, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- You could take out that information and add things that aren't even mentioned, but should be. I don't think as it is that this article can even be used as a game guide, but that is someone else's point of view (see early discussion above). Sadly, the person who tagged the article isn't giving you any clues on what they think should be changed/improved. I currently don't have the time and patience to make any changes, especially since I haven't even played Mabi since the giant update. But hopefully, the person who ends up editing the article has actually played the game (I find one of the last changes a bit ODD -- the one to the summary). In any case, try to change what you feel should be changed and go from there. 0cm 07:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

- "Nuked"? "Putrid"? Someone needs to get back on their Ritalin. If you'd really like to "nuke" the article and start over, why don't you put up a draft on your username space and let us see if it's enough to trash the current article? I think this one could use some tweaks. I've been meaning to do this, but since I stopped playing the game (I'm waiting for the international version, finally being released) I kind of lost the motivation, since I haven't been following up on the game updates. 0cm (talk) 16:38, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- Simply having a polar opinion on this article as opposed to yours doesn't warrant the use of such pharmaceuticals. I'd say today's generation has become too accustomed to being doped up. At any rate, I continue to stand by my initial impression of this article. To pitch in some course of actions, the entire Mabinogi: Heroes category must be given an article of its own, whilst it would be very appropriate for all the 'lists' to be shortened, if not isolated into their own articles, as well, inasmuch as I find that act superfluous. Brevity is also something I'm concerned with. As for my fiddling with my username space, I may take that into consideration, but 'Let's see you coming up with a better article' is no argument. Lunarea (talk) 09:35, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- "Simply having a polar opinion on this article as opposed to yours doesn't warrant the use of such pharmaceuticals." -- wasn't really referring to having a different opinion but to the wording you used. Enough about "today's generation". I wouldn't put us down, since we'll most likely be the ones changing your diapers when you are old and lose bladder control. Be nice to us, because soaking in urine is no fun. Rather than completely delete the content already created by everyone (and if you check the list, quite a few people contributed to it), rework it, or at least post a draft. Simply deleting everything is no solution. Brevity, in my book, is good for the summaries. Nothing I hate more on Wikipedia than to read an article and find out it's got no useful information because the editors had "brevity" in mind. I'd delete the lists (skills, day bonuses). I added the info about the bonuses at the time, because I thought they'd give an idea of how they work and influence the actions of the players, but the list itself probably isn't needed. 0cm (talk) 20:52, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Alas, that sounded like my ironic attempt at jest gone flying past your head. "Today's generation" was myself included, incidentally. Concerning brevity, I mean brevity of language, not brevity of information. Trained eyes, which you, too, surely possess, can recognize awkward phrases that can be paraphrased or, due to redundancy, deleted. Running this article through a painstaking scrutiny is what it needs. Since you brought up the idea of "useful information", let's talk about that, as well. This article covers, or at least attempts to cover, the sphere of Mabinogi in a global perspective, does it not? Then, why is it that, here, the article assumes there to be only a single version of Mabinogi?
- "Generation 3, in later updates, added housing areas between Tir Chonaill and Dunbarton and also between Bangor and Emain Macha."
- No, that is false. Aside the fact that Generation 3 isn't an alive being, that wasn't the case in the Japanese client. As yet, Japan still doesn't have a housing system. I can find many other false claims. The point being, that if there's going to be a lot of information, it might as well be precise. If that can't happen, the said information is better gone. Lunarea (talk) 05:55, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe you should check what's been flying over your own head. I bet you actually took the "soaking in urine" part seriously. And you can't be part of a generation if you set yourself aside from it with comments like "this generation, blah, blah, blah". Oh boy... Anyway, about brevity *of language*, then I'm not the best person to talk about it or edit an article with brevity of speech in mind. About the housing bit, go back and check a) this talk page, b) the edit history. You'll see why some of the information doesn't take into account the different game versions: they were edited at different times by people playing different services. That just means that there needs to be a clear distinction, and that's already in some parts of the article. I still don't see you making any real effort to fix what needs to be corrected. I know it's easier (to a single contributer) to just delete everything and start from scratch. Pulling together an article written by a dozen different people, playing different versions, from different countries and with distinct writing abilities/style isn't so easy, is it? But that's the difference between a personal site and a community-driven one. I'm sure we'll see more people viewing this article once the international version is released, so I hope there'll be more contributions to it. 0cm (talk) 14:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

"International" Release Timeline
The release date is claimed to be December 2007. This clearly is in need for an agreeable citation and a reference appended to it. As far as my understanding goes neither Nexon nor devCAT has directly commented on a specific release date or, for that matter, whether this client will target the global market or North America. Any comments in regards to this matter will be appreciated. mabic10h8 17:47, 22 2007 (UTC)
- A quick research on my own led me to an obscure community from which the rumor seemingly originated. Since it's blatant that this is an unverified claim on the submitter's part, I'm going to delete the "international" release date. mabic10h8 01:31, 24 2007 (UTC)
- There, the poster claims she has a friend who works at a New York branch of Nexon America, while no such thing exists. Nexon America has branches in Los Angeles and BC, Canada. There is no chance that the poster is a credible source. Mabic10h8 08:29, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Image:Mabinogi Thunder Magic.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Mabinogi is not Cel-Shaded
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cel-shaded_animation for reference of what cel-shading accomplishes. Mabinogi uses hand painted textures with an optional edge detection filter. --EeriePanda (talk) 00:15, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, that was however, how Mabinogi was described in most game review articles, most likely, just referring to the cel-shaded look of the characters, rather than the actual technique used to achieve the look. But it's nice that you could elaborate on this and correct it. 0cm (talk) 18:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Removing information that are not important to a beginner for the game
What are the necessary information for someone who is starting the game? The current contents seems to have too detailed information about skills and etc. The following are problematic areas that i think should be removed or summarized:
- Life Skills - and all the skills listed under it.
- Battle Skills
- Magic Skills
- Special Paladin Skills
- Special Dark Knight Skills
As i have not played the game before, i'm hesitant to remove information that might be good information.--Happytish (talk) 03:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, just go for it and use your own good judgment. If people don't agree, they can always revert the edits. If you think you can improve this, then please do! 0cm (talk) 13:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Mabinogi(on) and Korean tale
Someone posted information that the Mabinogi title was not related to the Celtic Mabinogion, but rather to some Korean tale about a snake. I don't think this is correct. Please read the last paragraphs on this page: http://www.mabinogion.com/ Also, on the old Japanese Mabinogi site, it clearly mentioned the ancient (Mabinogion) songs from Europe. The in-game references (items, days of the week, etc.) are not Korean either. So please post where you found mention of this Korean tale that supposedly is the inspiration to Mabinogi. For the meantime, I've edited it back to the previous content. 0cm (talk) 13:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- You are correct. The official Korean site states that 'Mabinogi is derived from the old tales of the Celtic' (mabinogi.naver.com) --<The Integer Conundrum> (talk) 07:47, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Add English-version screenshots?
Wondering if anyone playing North America Mabinogi could replace/add relevant screenshots to this article? I am in Europe and therefore cannot play the NA version. :( Please help if you can? 0cm (talk) 05:29, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Skills section
I'm thinking it's long, uninformative, and really pointless. No other game article proceeds to name every skill. I'm going to trim it down into paragraph form and not try to list out everything, 'kay? Any objections I'll love to hear. Mekryd (talk) 06:42, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think what started as an attempt to illustrate the variety of skills in the game, eventually evolved into a list of all skills in the game. You could probably work some of the skill examples into the Gameplay section. 0cm (talk) 18:44, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Updates to the article
I made a Updates/News Section for the Japanese, Korean, and North American versions. If anyone has any other information on the different versions please make the changes. I also updated the rest of the page to be more up-to-date with new data from the Pioneers of Iria patch. I also am going to try to encourage the player base to help modify this article properly. LaughingReaper (talk) 04:49, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
- If you are currently playing the game, could you try to replace the JP screenshots with similar NA ones? It's a pity that no one has done that (I can't play the NA version and have stopped playing the JP one). Since there is a NA version now, it would make more sense to have them on the English article. 0cm (talk) 00:13, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- Will do. LaughingReaper (talk) 22:56, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Mabinogi Heroes
According to Mabinogi World, the beta testing for Mabinogi Heroes has begun/is about to begin in Korea. Should this be added into this article, or should a new article be made? Personally, I'm leaning more toward the former since there isn't much information out on this game yet. Alicia (talk) 04:17, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Personally, I use MabiWorld as well, but you'll have to use the source site video as a source. Also, it should go under the article Mabinogi Heroes, since the game does not relate to Mabinogi itself. LaughingReaper (talk) 17:08, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Is mabinogi heroes a sequel to the original game? because the concepts are completely different. If it isn't, should the other game even be mentioned? or perhaps mabinogi heroes should just be left int he "see also/further reading" section of the page [however we wish to call it] I'm thinking it would be smartest to simply put all MabiHeroes related info there and have ONLY mabinogi related stuff here =/ otherwise there would be confusion, of course --67.170.252.71 (talk) 03:18, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Controversy
"On January 28, 2008, it was reported that a 16-year-old boy from Japan hacked the website of Nexon Japan and accrued 36 million yen (325,000 Dollars) worth of game points used in Mabinogi. It sparked discussions among the public about the security of an online game's billing system." I wonder why this part is under 'Controversy'?
- I personally wonder why this was even here, this isn't about NA Mabinogi, or too relevant, deleting. LaughingReaper (talk) 02:27, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Mentioning of irrelevent ideas, occasional bias?
Some parts of the article seemed obviously ... badish
"The free rebirth option allows you to reset your level and age, and will not allow you to change your character's appearance. Also, when using the free rebirth, you automatically return to your character's last location, meaning you can not go to the 'Forest of Souls' and receive a free fixed dye ampoule from Tin" Didn't find the mentioning of the NPC "Tin" to be helpful. In fact, when my friends read the article, they thought it was talking about like... extracting a "dye ampoule" from a piece of metal. Now really, hes a very minor character, and most users probably don't remember his name, so why bother mentioning him? Might as well mention the bird sitting on the tree above duncan's house
"The Welsh word mabinogi is found in the original manuscripts of the Mabinogion." Does that really have anything to do with the article? Its etymology i guess... but it still looks <really> out of place.
"The gameplay is largely skill-based" This seemed biased to me, anyone else? --Warthog518 (talk) 03:35, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Servers
I know this sounds a bit forum-y, but I have to ask. Does anyone know when the European release date is? Or what servers it has? Apologies if I sound thick, but this the first MMO I've planned to try, so I'm not totally sure about it all. Anyway, will the European version have, or at the very least interact with, the Ruairi server in America? If not, how on Earth do I get my England-based computer to connect to Ruairi? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:35, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
