Removed the following. This information would be better placed in the Dynasty Warriors article. Nonsuch 07:47, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ma Chao makes his appearance as a playable character in the KOEI game Dynasty Warriors. Initially introduced in Dynasty Warriors 2, Ma Chao remained a playable character throughout all subsequent sequels of the series. In some games, such as Dynasty Warriors 4, he had to be unlocked through a particular series of events such as a special duel, while in other games, namely Dynasty Warriors 5, Ma Chao is playable from the start. The games tend to portray him as a warrior with a strong sense of right and wrong and a fiery temper, leading to many loud speeches and game quotes involving the use of the words 'spear' and 'justice.' He is known for a very effective move set on the ground (including a nubmer of powerful crowd-clearing charge attacks) and possibly the most potent mounted combat style in the series, reflecting both his origin as part of the cavalries of Xi Liang and possibly a literal translation of his name (the symbols for "horse" and "exceed" or "surpass"). Unofficially considered one of the top tier characters as of Dynasty Warriors 5.

Ma Chao, the opposite of Zhao Yun

[edit]

Thinking about Ma Chao and all he did, I see him not only possessing the skills like Lu Bu but having the same sense of right and wrong like Zhao Yun. Just between the two of them, Ma Chao and Zhao Yun would make up for a perfect pair of warriors; however, since Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun were the only two main heroes left in Shu after the Nanman Battles, I would say it is Ma Su (Maybe not) who would do well as a pair for Ma Chao. (But this is all food for thought)--Zhang Liao 19:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ma Chao having a sense of right and wrong like Zhao Yun? I think you've been influenced too much by fiction (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Dynasty Warriors etc). Ma didn't even care about his family when he rebelled against Cao Cao. I believe he was certain that his family members were in Cao's control and Cao would kill them if he rebelled. However, he didn't bother, and he paid the price of his clan's extermination for that. Not to mention, he left his concubine and son behind when he defected from Zhang Lu to join Liu Bei. And what happened to them? His concubine became another man's, while his son was killed by Zhang. Ma is inhumane and untrustworthy, as some people have described him. To add on, if I were Zhao Yun, I wouldn't want to associate myself with Ma. I think Ma and Lü Bu will hit off well. :) Lonelydarksky (暗無天日) contact me (聯絡) 12:52, 27 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ma Chao Lion Dance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibxf8i3zjRI I think this needs to be included in this article somehow, by someone who actually understands this. Aurora sword (talk) 05:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Supposed descendant

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamikonian#Legendary_origin

"Recently, a Chinese historian introduce one theory about Chinese origin of the Mamikonians. According to his theory, the Mamikonians' ancestor is a relative of general Ma Chao. This relative successfully escaped the purge of Cao Cao on Ma family and fled to Persia, then to Armenia. In 2005, in an interview with the Xinhua News Agency journalists, Suri Mamikonian, vice-president of Friendship Association of Mamikonian family, said that his family name actually is the Ma surname of China, and his ancestors came from China. How ever Suri do not know exactly who his ancestor is."

Lead's second paragraph should be removed

[edit]

"Historians and Ma Chao's contemporaries have a generally negative view of him. Apart from committing treason against the Han government under Cao Cao's control, Ma Chao was also notorious for committing a number of acts of cruelty: he betrayed his father when he persuaded Han Sui to join him in his rebellion; he abandoned his wife and son when he defected from Zhang Lu to Liu Bei; he killed Jiang Xu's mother in cold blood after she scolded him; he murdered Zhao Ang and Wang Yi's son after they rebelled against him and forced him out of Liang Province."

It is a very biased and negative view of Ma Chao's life, specific to his article as the same could be done for many other figures of this era. A literal list of the worst actions of his life, all taken out of context. I think it already did a lot of damage. Still, it should no longer be spread around and highlighted as such.TheWayWeAllGo (talk) 06:30, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it needs to go. If people want to find viewpoints of him, they can go to the appraisal section and judge for themselves, and that summary does paint everything in the worst light. DongZhuo3kingdoms (talk) 10:50, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
