Previous version
[edit]A previous version of this article existed.
It was deleted, on August 7 2007, based on a claim of copyright violation.
I've looked. I can't find the discussion of the nomination of this article for deletion. I have no idea why there is no record of the discussion of the deletion of this article.
I asked the admin who performed the deletion to temporarily userify the deleted contents, so I could access whatever valid references and material that did not violate copyright it may have contained, and use the URL of the page whose copyright it violated into a valid reference.
The closing admin told me this temporary userification would be a violation of policy.
I've decided to put further comments here, rather than on the closing admin's talk page. Geo Swan (talk) 01:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- I asked the deleting admin how come I can't find the discussion of the perceived copyright violation that lead to this deletion. Geo Swan (talk) 17:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
From http://www.economist.com/node/21561891
It has a research station in the Svalbard archipelago, the northernmost part of Norway, and is building a sister ship to the Xue Long, to go into service in 2014.

- The new ship, which won't be a sister ship to Xue Long but a completely new design, is still mentioned in the article, As for the Svalbard research station, it doesn't have much to do with the research ship other than the fact that both partake in Arctic research. Main engine
[edit]According to this tweet, Xue Long is nowadays powered by Wärtsilä RT-flex60 series engine. However, I can't find any reference for this, so I'll leave the article be until I can add a citation as well. However, this means that the 2013 refit might have actually been carried out. Requested move 20 April 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 20:06, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
MV Xue Long → Xue Long – Article was moved from Xue Long to MV Xue Long in 2008 due to "spelling"; request moving the article back over redirect. Ship articles do not need to be disambiguated by prefix such as MV (for "Motor Vessel") by default, and there are no other articles about "Xue Long". Furthermore, I'm not sure if "MV" is the correct prefix for a research vessel if we wanted (or had to) disambiguate. At the same time, MV Xue Long 2 could be moved to Xue Long 2 (I can do this myself). Tupsumato (talk) 06:24, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - "MV" is not included to disambiguate the title. The guideline for ship names is at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships)#Naming articles about civilian ships. Prefixes are optional for modern (ie. since prefixes came into use) non-military ships. I don't think there is a . The Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration webpage for the ship includes a prefix with a slash ("MV Xuelong"); although the ship naming convention for Wikipedia doesn't say anything about stylizing the prefix with a slash, I don't think I have ever seen a Wikipedia ship article use a slash in the prefix. The main article naming convention has this to say about moves (WP:TITLECHANGES): "
If an article title has been stable for a long time, and there is no good reason to change it, it should not be changed. Consensus among editors determines if there does exist a good reason to change the title.
" Since the MV Xue Long 2 article already has the prefix, I don't see that there's any compelling reason to move it and think that for consistency's sake it should be styled the same as this article. However, a redirect should be made for the name without the prefix, so I made Xue Long 2 into a redirect page.
