cyprus, greece, turkey
[edit]mariam asked greece and turkey to let them pass through after cyprus refused. greece and turkey both refused. anyone who denies this is either uninformed or lying. 174.112.83.21 (talk) 04:37, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe you care for this quote, from a somewhat reliable source:
"A Lebanese aid ship destined for Gaza delayed its departure on Saturday after Cyprus refused to allow the ship to sail through its waters or to use its ports, organizers and Lebanese officials said.
"The ship, the Mariam, was to have left the northern Lebanese port of Tripoli on Sunday bound for Cyprus, the first leg of the trip. Organizers said that they had been negotiating with Turkey and Greece for the use of ports and waters and that they could reach a deal by Monday."
Clearly, those two countries did not refuse (yet?). Do you have any sources to contradict this? Drmies (talk) 04:49, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
egypt blockade of gaza
[edit]gaza is under blockade of not just israel, but also egypt. this edit has been reverted by 1 user 4 times in 24 hours. if someone wants to put this information back in that would be great, because i dont want to violate 3RR. 174.112.83.21 (talk) 04:38, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- That is irrelevant to the article. Look at the sources: the attempt is to break Israel's blockade. Here it is, from The New York Times: "The trip’s organizers, a group of more than 50 women, most of whom are Lebanese, said the Mariam, which sails under the flag of Bolivia, was carrying food and medical supplies. Its goal, they said, is to break the naval blockade of Gaza that Israel imposed after the militant group Hamas was elected to power." That's what the source has, that's what we can put in the article. Drmies (talk) 04:47, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Julia
[edit]Apparently, as recently as June 2010, another ship, the Julia was to do the "Gaza Mission". As a result, there are photos on the net of a ship called Mariam that look nothing like the Mariam. See http://www.sanfranciscosentinel.com/?p=78166 . On the other hand, photos such as this one of Miriam look similar/identical to photos of Trident. HausTalk 07:37, 30 August 2010 (UTC) Researching it further, it appears the Julia may be the Naji Alali/Naji al Ali, which is/was/may be planned to sail with Mariam to the Gaza Strip.
