Merge

[edit]

Re merge, absolutely no, and the reason is very simple: My Trace Route is a specific program / instance of the general traceroute and, if anything, should just be a para in the general article. I also note from Talk:Traceroute that this suggestion is now pretty old, so will remove the template. --AlisonW 17:34, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that this merge rightly so, never took place. --Hm2k (talk) 13:32, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MTR (software)My traceroute – This title is too ambiguous and generic. People who are looking for this article would likely search for this topic by its full name, rather than its abbreviation. Moreover, the lowercase "mtr" is already targeted to MTR instead as it is more well-known. That being said, the article about the software should be renamed to reflect what it actually is. ««« SOME GADGET GEEK »»» (talk) 22:29, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have to disagree. I know ping, traceroute and mtr by name but I never even knew MTR stands out for "my traceroute" or "Matt's traceroute". Never have I seen anyone talk about "Matt's traceroute" but MTR on the internet. Please subst: the template. 2001:2003:54FA:2751:0:0:0:1 (talk) 19:11, 19 September 2017 (UTC); edited 19:12, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. It's a geekish article on a geekish subject and we geeks just say MTR (which could stand for Matt's traceroute or my traceroute or nothing at all, tant pis). Andrewa (talk) 23:16, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
