I don't belive that the steptronic had a CVT, it was a paddle shift semi auto box.
Steptronic Gearbox
[edit]The Steptronic gearbox is indeed a CVT. The semi-auto mode is simply a series of fixed settings on the CVT and is controlled by a pair of nasty cheap switches on the steering wheel or by moving the gear shift forward/back to simulate a sequential transmission.
When the TF version appeared the name was changed to Stepspeed. Dryce 23:26, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Was?
[edit]According to the British Motor Industry article, the MG TF has entered production in 2007, and is therefore a current car. Surely this article should be in the present tense? - • The Giant Puffin • 19:35, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
I was one of the few who owned a 1957 (or 56?) TF 1500. I bought it in January 1958 in LA when I returned from overseas while in the Marine Corps. I loved that car. It would only do about 85, but it would do that 85 safely on any road you wanted to drive, no matter how curvy. Neil Huff
Why only one article for F and TF?
[edit]The TF is different enough to the F to warrant its own article. Indeed, the TF looks largely like an F. There are also some components shared between the two. But, no more than say, those shared between a VW Bora and a Skoda Octavia. The TF has a completely different suspension and steering set-up, the engines are different (they are both K-series, but the TF is more evolved in the engine department). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.107.182.109 (talk) 22:58, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. Propose creating a separate MG TF article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.59.43.240 (talk) 11:08, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Engine wise, many late model MGFs had all the characteristics of the TF engine, including MEMS3 engine management, and shared the TF airbox design etc, relocation of sensors (such as Inlet Air temp sensor), wasted spark coils, etc etc so to say the F had adifferent engine from TF is a bit vague. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.133.7.37 (talk) 14:45, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I found an error in this description
[edit]101kW is NOT 145HP !!!! It's 135-137 only (135 "european HP" or 137 PS units). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.147.143.9 (talk) 08:34, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Head Gasket Failure section
[edit]I don't think this section reads like a set of instructions. It is quite detailed, but it simply describes a common issue with the engines. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukecrowley571 (talk • contribs) 12:45, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
I've added some further details on the head gasket issue and common fixes. - Kiwi303 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kiwi303 (talk • contribs) 04:53, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Roof?
[edit]I'm puzzled... the article claims the roof was licenced from Mazda. I have a TF (identical roof to the F) and my partner has an MX-5.S2.5 (identical roof to S1 and S2): there is absolutely NOTHING in common between those two roofs. For example, the MX-5 windscreen (made of glass) folds down in one piece. Yet the MG windscreen folds in two, hence why it was made of plastic, the later MGs had a glass screen. I have tried searching on the net, but the only source for this "fact" is Wikipedia. Thus, I will delete this. If someone can cite this "fact", they should feel free to reinstate it and supply a source. The windscreen clips are a SIMILAR design, but that's as close as you can get to saying the MG and Mazda roofs are the same design. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.6.35.235 (talk) 20:33, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
