"MBC is a US State Department-run company broadcasting a mix of free-to-air news and entertainment channels via satellite. MBC has recently moved its headquarters to Dubai Media City."

I was unable to find any sources for the statement "US State Department-run". Resources would be very much appreciated.

beyond un-encyclopedic tone ("visionary businessmen," etc.) and press-release language, the article fails to mention the station's links to the Saudi monarchy —Preceding unsigned comment added by catzen (talkcontribs)

Fair use rationale for Image:MBC (logo).png

[edit]

Image:MBC (logo).png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Why?

[edit]

[Moved from User talk:Hrafn ]

Why cannot an unpublished PH.D. thesis be used as a source? It is a scientific research, as far as I know. ThanksEgeymi (talk) 19:57, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please read this part of the principles you mentioned:

Completed dissertations or theses written as part of the requirements for a PhD, and which are publicly available, are considered publications by scholars and are routinely cited in footnotes. They have been vetted by the scholarly community; most are available via interlibrary loan. Dissertations in progress have not been vetted and are not regarded as published and are thus not reliable sources as a rule. Masters dissertations and theses are only considered reliable if they can be shown to have had significant scholarly influence.

So please revert your deletion. The other thing was that you might put your remarks on my talk page or the article's talk page before delete it, I think. Thanks. Egeymi (talk) 20:03, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For your information, I am still waiting for your reply. Otherwise, I will revert it. Thanks,Egeymi (talk) 20:16, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Discussion of a specific article belongs on article, not on user talk.
  2. The cited work is not a "PH.D. thesis", it is a Masters thesis ("A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in International Affairs"). "Masters dissertations and theses are only considered reliable if they can be shown to have had significant scholarly influence."

HrafnTalkStalk(P) 04:30, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your "very kind" instructions but you must have started here the discussion first before deleting it. And I wanted to "communicate" with you so that I wrote a note in your talk page. Secondly, you are right it is a MA thesis. However, the paragraph above states that "Masters dissertations and theses are only considered reliable if they can be shown to have had significant scholarly influence." It does not state "you can delete all information taken from a MA thesis." Anyway, it is not a big deal. Thanks.Egeymi (talk) 07:43, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, there is no requirement to "have started here the discussion first before deleting it" -- please read WP:BRD. It is perfectly routine to revert newly-added material that is not supported by a reliable source. Given the enormous number of such additions, it is impractical to expect us to discuss them all first. I also see that you are presenting no information supporting a claim that this thesis has "had significant scholarly influence", so this continued discussion would appear to be moot. My talkpage explicitly states "Discussion directly pertaining to a specific article belongs on that article's talkpage. Where such discussion is erroneously posted here, I may move it to article talk (if I'm feeling particularly kind-hearted, or am busting for a good argument), but most likely will simply delete or revert it -- so best to post it where it belongs in the first place." No longer free to air

[edit]

Most MBC channels on satellite are no longer free to air, due to copyright claims. Jvankessel (talk) 16:46, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Almost all MBC content now requires a VIP subscription, yet the article repeatedly emphasizes that it is free to air, making it read like an (inaccurate) advertisement Chaosmuppeteer (talk) 18:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)Chaosmuppeteer[reply]

Middle East Broadcasting CenterMBC Group – the previous name is one that does not exist for MBC Group. Happy to verify this as this is being requested by the company itself Mahmouddigitalink (talk) 21:09, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink).   Kadzi  (talk) 21:30, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MBC Group does not refer to itself as Middle East Broadcasting Center. Please see official website. What would be the best way for us to verify this for you in order to facilitate the change? Many thanks.Mahmouddigitalink (talk) 21:57, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Due to a notification from one of your colleagues, I am adding for transparency (however I have already disclosed above that we are just keen to change what is factually incorrect, and I assure you I have no intention of posting promotional posts/unverified claims). Many thanks.
  • Support. Thank you OP for disclosing this conflict of interest information. It seems that "MBC Group" is the common name, and looks to be distinct from other companies listed at MBC. 162 etc. (talk) 16:42, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for this. To add to this discussion, I have received confirmation that Middle East Broadcasting Center is not a legal registered name for MBC Group.Mahmouddigitalink (talk) 23:30, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
