Interesting article here, and very well written. Just the usual minor points.

  • Presumably he played as an amateur, if he was working outside of cricket, but this is not stated in the article.
  • I've added it into the lead; though there is no explicit reference for this. Contemporary scorecards show it is the case, but obviously it takes a certain level of knowledge to know that. Any thoughts? Harrias talk 10:08, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • When I've had this problem before, I've linked to the old scorecard and added a note saying that amateurs were given the title "Mr". (I think it's in the Mold article somewhere). Sarastro1 (talk) 20:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anything about how he was received? Although Ranji had set a precedent, how did supporters respond to an Indian playing for the county?
  • Cricinfo calls him a prince. Any more on this? (Sounds like Ranji-esque bluster)
  • Both Cricinfo and CricketArchive refer to him as "Prince Bajana", and the article (which I originally created) used to be at that name. However, no other sources entitle him Prince, and in this article, it states that "Narayan and Bajana were known to the Taunton faithful as "Prince" and "Pyjamas"." So I wonder if there was some confusion maybe? Either way, there are no sources which actually state him to be a Prince, and I given that no sources beyond those profiles mention the title at all, I've dropped it completely. • "and joined Somerset County Cricket Club, for whom he played": I think it should be "for which he played" as Somerset is not a person.
  • In the Early life section, consecutive sentences begin "Earlier in the tour… During the tour".
  • "were both county records that season": Never heard it called that before. Maybe just "the county's best that season". Also, it may be worth giving his place in the averages.
  • I've changed the language as suggested, I'd been struggling with how to phrase it, and that sounds much better. I'm not sure about adding his place in the averages (he was second for Somerset, and not even in the top-75 nationally) because there are quite a lot of numbers and statistics there anyway, and I'm not sure how to add it in without it all getting a little bogged down. Any suggestions? Harrias talk 10:08, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Minor point: Giving the context for Somerset's poor Championship placing sets him up a bit as if he will be the saviour. Maybe tweak more along the lines of Somerset being desperate for cheap players, unless he was consistently the leading batsman.
  • "was bettered by only Peter Randall Johnson, Len Braund and Bruce Hylton-Stewart amongst his Somerset team-mates": So he was fourth in the averages? I think this may oversell the achievement a little.
  • I seem to recall that I misread the table, and originally thought he was second, so added another name, and then noticed someone else and added another, so it got rather longer than I intended! Harrias talk 20:10, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The London Gazette ref is to the wrong page. (I think its page 1990) Other spot-checks fine.
  • Images and refs fine.

Nice work overall. Could pass now, but that would be too kind. All Somerset cricketers should be made to suffer… Sarastro1 (talk) 19:43, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review. Don't really have time at the moment to address it properly, though I've responded to a few of the comments. I'll have a proper look tomorrow or the weekend. I'm not talking about current four-day cricket at the moment I'm afraid. Heaven knows why not. Harrias talk 20:10, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've responded to each of your points, though I appreciate they aren't necessarily resolved. I can just about talk about four day cricket now, though quite frankly, I don't really understand what has happened to our batting. Not looking forward to the next couple of months with Buttler out of the one-day side either. Still, that's the life of a county cricket follower. Harrias talk 10:08, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've had rather the opposite experience of not expecting very much at all (especially after the first match) but feeling incredibly happy right now. Sarastro1 (talk) 20:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just the point about referencing the amateur status thing now, and that's not enough to hold this up. So passing now. Sarastro1 (talk) 20:28, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
