Pen name?

[edit]

How is "M. John Harrison" a "pen name"? It's his real name, and lots of people use their middle name, often with the first initial of their first name. StAnselm (talk) 10:04, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

September 2017 revision

[edit]

I've edited the page to:

  • Remove claims about Harrison's private life that did not have citations, in line with the policies in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons
  • Bring it up to date: there appeared to be no information after 2009.
  • Reduce the size of sections where there are subsidiary articles, for instance for Viriconium. I've incorporated some of the material from this page into those subsidiary pages so as not to lose anything.
  • Added extra sections to preserve material about politics, critical reception and non-authorial work that made the article sections unwieldy before.
  • Added sections for 2000s and 2010s, plus sections for significant works and series of works, in line with the existing structure, to make the article easier to navigate. This seemed particularly necessary for a career as long and varied as Harrison's.
  • Added citations where I can.
  • Shorten the introduction and keep the critical comments there to those by the most generally authoritative and widely respected sources.
  • Remove unreferenced assertions about Harrison's stylistic approach.
  • Include more material about the non-science-fiction work that is a significant part of Harrison's output.
