Errors and false assumptions

[edit]

The "Current" section of the article needs a complete rewriting because of errors and false assumptions.

  1. The area of the former airfield is not used as agricultural fields. During the week it serves as proving ground for the nearby Lützow Barracks that partly incorporate the buildings of the former airfield. It is open to public at weekends.
  2. The first three coordinates (51°59′14″N 007°43′48″E, 51°59′18″N 007°43′52″E and 51°59′19″N 007°44′05″E) are incorrect. The (partly) demolished buildings at those locations are remnants of the Nike missile base barracks and have nothing to do with the airfield operations itself. The location marked by the third coordinate is part of the training facility of the Institute of Firefighters Northrhine-Westphalia.
  3. The next coordinate (51°59′29″N 007°44′01″E) is basically correct although it might not be correct to name this the main runway.
  4. The fifth coordinate (51°59′50″N 007°44′06″E) is completely wrong as it marks a place directly on another runway. Instead it marks the launch area of the Nike missile base.
  5. The last coordinate is basically correct but makes wrong assumptions about clear areas.

Maps of the original layout of the airfield can be found at here, information about the Nike site including coordinates and (some) pics is (still) available in the Web Archive here.

Beside the erroneous "Current" section, the article is completely missing out the fact that in the beginning the airfield was planned as a combined airfield for military and civil flights with the buildings for the latter situated in the south-east corner. --STBR!? 13:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
