Accents
[edit]There should not be an accent on the O, the Ordnance Survey and every guide book on the Scottish Munros writes the hill name without an accent, so why make the change. Wheres the evidence that there should be an accent.Mick Knapton (talk) 09:10, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- The evidence is in every single Scottish Gaelic dictionary - why don't you buy one? It doesn't make any sense as a name without one, in fact, when one misses the accents from Gaelic words it alters both their pronounciation and meaning e.g. "Mòr" means large, and "Mor" is a girl's name (usually lengthened to "Morag"). Having seen the guidebook "pronounciation" for Càrn Aosda, it is clear that some of these writers are pretty ignorant on this subject. The OS is currently trying to remedy some of its past misdemeanours - these include putting accents back on, going back to the proper spelling, or even providing a bilingual version of a name. --MacRusgail (talk) 11:31, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
