[edit]I don't believe that the stereoscope photo of the Lyceum Theatre just added to this page is the same theatre as the one in this article. See this webpage for a photo of the 1885 Lyceum Theatre: http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ma02/volpe/theater/theater/theaters.html Thoughts? Cheers, Markhh (talk) 21:11, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- Here's another link that quite clearly shows that it was a theatre built in 1866 and located on 14th Street. It was originally the Theatre Francais but was called the Lyceum in 1871.
Here's the link: http://daytoninmanhattan.blogspot.com/2011/09/lost-1866-theatre-francais-107-west.html All very interesting! I'm going to remove the photo though. Thanks for adding it. Cheers, Markhh (talk) 21:20, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Really nice article. A couple of interesting items which may be worthwhile to add:
1. The U.S. premiere of Oscar Wilde's play "An Ideal Husband" on March 12th, 1895. Attested to in the Frohman autobiography you cite, as well as Elisabeth Marbury's autobiography: http://www.ourstory.info/library/2-ww1/Marbury/crystal03.html and the NYT: http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=F00D17FE385911738DDDAB0894DB405B8585F0D3
2. Literary References: Two mentions in Theodore Dreiser's novel "Sister Carrie" (set in the 1890s) including chapter 32, where the characters attend a play there after dining at Sherry's. It was Lord Chumley, featuring E. H. Sothern. In chapter 38, Carrie goes to find work there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by StaiDough (talk • contribs) 02:24, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
