1911

[edit]

A lot of the content in this article comes from the 1911 Britannica article, some of which is very dated. The best thing would be for a geologist or speleologist to edit it. In the meantime I will tag it as a 1911 Britannica article needing revision and as I can make some revisions. Addendum: Is there a way to tag it that doesn't indicate that the neutrality is challenged? This material is just dated, not really prejudiced. --Markkidd 02:19, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you've got {{1911}} in there at the bottom, which is your notation that it's from the public-domain 1911 Britannica. As far as properly tagging it, lemme play with that... SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:38, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I've added {{Expert}} and {{update}} to the top of the article to replace that 1911 POV tag. I think that ought to get it the right attention that it needs. SchuminWeb (Talk) 02:43, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reversed one of the recent changes made by 68.65.166.139 that refers to the Organ and the Elfin Ramble. I am a little bit apprehensive about some of the other changes, which I think more reflect changes in nomenclature and emphasis on the tours than accuracy. Both the Organ and the Elfin Ramble were/are well-established formations dating back at least to the turn of the century. The book The Discovery of Luray Caverns includes information about these and some of the other formations as described in the 1911 Britannica article from which this one is sourced. Tricky. --Markkidd 06:32, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone noticed that a lot of this article (specifically the section on speleothems) has been plagiarized directly from the 1911 Britannica article? It is bad enough that most of this information is taken from a single, dated source, but copied directly as well? Doesn't anyone have a book from the gift shop or anything like that? --torq 02:33, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The 1911 Britannica is in the public domain & has been absorbed into Wikipedia in its entirety... In other words, no problem here. 72.66.29.150 (talk) 22:26, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I'm not totally familiar with the reference style used here, but it seems OK to me — just one way out of many to do citations, which WP "rules" allow. I put that into quotes because, supposedly, there are no rules. Leave message here if you need help on this. GeorgeLouis (talk) 22:39, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Description

[edit]

Can somebody please rewrite the description using proper grammar? I sound as if it were written by a second grader. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.63.180 (talk) 07:49, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
