Immortalized in an NPR show

[edit]

Rodriguez's bout against Rubin "Hurricane" Carter -- not even mentioned in this article -- is immortalized (with some minor factual discrepancies) in a 1978 WBAI broadcast by radio dramatist Joe Frank, who also summarizes Rodriguez's career and his matches against Emile Griffith. 208.71.235.4 (talk) 16:50, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of Dylan...

[edit]

Well, while the Minnesota Minstrel wasn't mentioned per se, the subject of one of his most memorable (if fact-challenged) songs was, Rubin Carter. As all Dylanologists are well aware, Dylan recounted the 1963 featherweight championship bout between champ Davey Moore and challenger Sugar Ramos which ultimately resulted in Moore's death four days later. As it happens, Rodriguez was ringside for the match, and was called on several times by the television blow-by-blow announcer to provide running commentary on the fight. Accordingly, I added this, as it clearly was, though out of the ring, a memorable moment in Rodriguez's career.
