Requested move 30 March 2023

Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved to Luis Díaz (footballer, born 1997). (closed by non-admin page mover) ■ ∃ Madeline ⇔ ∃ Part of me ; 09:24, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
– Disambiguation for this player no longer works, since Luis Díaz (footballer, born 2004) was made, another Colombian football winger with the same name. Looking into it, this Liverpool footballer has an order of magnitude more page views than the others with the same name combined, and there's no other standout candidate: [page view stats]. So I think there's a strong argument that he is the PRIMARYTOPIC. Otherwise, page can be moved to Luis Díaz (footballer, born 1997) as per WP:NCSP Ortizesp (talk) 05:24, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support alternative proposal Luis Díaz (Colombian footballer) → Luis Díaz (footballer, born 1997) and oppose Luis Díaz → Luis Díaz (disambiguation). There are 15 men listed upon the Luis Díaz disambiguation page (four of whom use the unaccented name "Luis Diaz" and one of whom is named "Luis Días") and it still does not seem clear that the 1997-born Colombian footballer who bears such a common name is the obvious WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 07:07, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose as proposed and instead support alternative proposal Luis Díaz (Colombian footballer) → Luis Díaz (footballer, born 1997), not PRIMARYOPIC, and nationality is (once again) useless as a disambiguation. GiantSnowman 18:13, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support GiantSnowman's suggestion as other footballing people with the same name aren't established internationals. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:26, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support alternative proposal. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:46, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
Continued removal of PGMOL goal error
[edit]There is a continued removal of the mention of the PGMOL goal error on Diaz's page, with the only reason cited as "removing excess detail". The description of this incident is a major topic of interest in Diaz's 2023-24 season, and is not irrelevant nor excessive in detail. I would like to hear the argument of why it should not be mentioned, and why it continues to be removed by Michaeldble. Bnwkr (talk) 01:32, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- I agree that this should be included, and would ask users to refrain from edit warring in removing it when it has extensive notable sources. OGBC1992 (talk) 09:43, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- FWIW, I think "continued removal" or "edit warring" is a bit of a stretch. I removed it once as I did not think it was too important. I only reverted the second edit because this and a separate part in that edit was added back completely unsourced - against BLP policy Michaeldble (talk) 17:27, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Indigenous person - conflicting reports
[edit]In this interview with a Colombian magazine [1], Díaz responds to the question "How Wayuu are you?" with:
"Tengo las raíces, tengo familiares lejanos que sí son wayuu, pero yo no lo soy. De hecho, he ido poco a sus rancherías, pero su tradición es divina, al igual que su gente. Vas allá y te enamoras. La cultura wayuu debería conocerse más."
"I have the origins, I have distant relatives who certainly are Wayuu, but I am not one. In fact, I have been rarely to their villages, but their tradition is divine, as are their people. Go there and you will fall in love. The Wayuu culture should be known more".
An interview with the New York Times, [2] Díaz self-describes as not being "pure" Wayuu, which in itself is the same fallacy as Elizabeth Warren fell victim to, believing that indigenous status is based on DNA percentages rather than commitment to a culture and way of life. The USA striker Chris Wondolowski is a registered member of the Kiowa tribe, despite clearly from his name not being "pure". [3]
This is a confusing situation. The man himself has said he's not a Wayuu, and also that he's a part-Wayuu who likes the culture. Given as indigenous status has a legal basis in Colombia (as in USA), and is notoriously appropriated in the USA, should this article call Díaz indigenous or not.
