Flowery language
[edit]"his cropped images of the landscape were presented with a deadpan, often ironic wit and a continuous anthropological engagement with his surroundings. The compositions and hues of his photographs suggested subtle emotional tones and a meticulously rich way of viewing the world"
I'm not sure what most of that even means! Ghirri was certainly a great landscape photogeapher but I don't think the above characterizes his work. I find his photographs contemplative, and often quite abstract, and he himself said he was interested in the relationship between architecture and landscape - buildings can make a landscape, or they can be a blot on it. When I have time I will go through the book of his work I have and dig out something that sums him up from the many interviews and articles about him it contains.
