Is that starfish in the new image actually L. ciliaris?
[edit]An image has just been added in the body of the article. The species seems to be of very variable appearance... Is there a reliable identification for this specimen? Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:05, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- I also wondered about this. Ras Sedr is on the Gulf of Suez and not in the stated range of this starfish. On the other hand the original image, taken off the coast of Spain and therefore within the species' range, might be incorrectly identified. The fact that a starfish has 7 arms is inconclusive because many species have a variable number of arms. The colouring of the new image seems wrong and this source has an image that more resembles our original one. Perhaps we should ask an expert. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:56, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- I think we should. Probably there's an echinoderm forum somewhere. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:16, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
