Focus city
[edit]Since 2015, Lufthansa is operating to/from its Frankfurt and Munich hubs only. But Luftansa kept its service from Düsseldorf to Newark, NJ, which is now flown by a dedicated Airbus A330 six times a week. Aircraft and crews are based locally. So Lufthansa is deviating from its two hub system. Does this aspect lead to Düsseldorf being a focus city for Lufthansa? What do you think? --AviNation (talk) 18:43, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

- It is not that important as it is never reported by reliable sources, most sites that do have average age are enthusiast sites which are not the reliable and dont give an indication that anybody else thinks it is of note. MilborneOne (talk) 17:09, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Sanskrit origin
[edit]On numerous occasions someone has added a second theory (or replaces the established theory) of the origin of the name "Lufthansa" with a statement that the name derives from Sanskrit. The theory varies from time to time and no credible explanation or source is ever given. It now reads "The other [naming theory] is that the word was designed by F.A. Fischer von Poturzyn, who had written a book of the same name, in which he detailed the word Lufthansa as an amalgamation of two Sanskrit words: 'Lupth(लुप्त) and 'Hansa (हंस)'." First, there is no real reason to doubt the officially stated etymology of German "Luft" (air) + "Hansa" (the medieval Hanseatic league). Also, the currently posted Sanskrit theory is dubious since the common Sanskrit word for air is vayu, not "lupth". While I am no expert in Sanskrit, I have not been able to find anything to substantiate that the Sanskrit word "lupht" (which appears contrived to match the German "Luft") even exists. Reply: Sanskrit word लुप्तः (Lupt) means lost or extinct and हंसः (Hamsa/Hansa) means swan.
I think the background to this is that there do exist historical relationships between Germany and India (that were especially strong pre WWII) and a shared Indo-European linguistic background. With regard to the part of the theory that "-hansa" should refer to a swan or crane rather than the Hanseatic league, there is an interesting and real link between the German word for goose (Gans) and the Sanskrit word for the same bird, which is exactly the same: "Gans".
I am removing the theory of a Sanskrit origin of the name since it is both highly improbable and not supported by any evidence at all. Thracia91 (talk) 05:37, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- coment on this removal - You should be less partial against Sanskrit. The Hansa (bird shown) in the logo of Lufthansa comes from the the Sanskrit word Hansa which means Swan (bird). - Just to note that the crane logo (not a swan) was inherited from Deutsche Aero Lloyd in the 1920s so originally had no connection with the name of the airline. MilborneOne (talk) 12:24, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

- Second that this is a myth. There is quite a corpus of back-constructed words claimed to stem from Sanskrit with made up associations - this being one of them. The hans in lufthansa originates in Old High German for convoy or confederation from the days of the vast guild called the Hanseatic league or Hansa. In fact the "vanished swan" is itself a much poorer alternative to airborne convoy, since luft is a widely used German word in such contexts, such as the luftwaffe, the connection to lupta from Sanskrit with a switch to fricative consonant is arbitrary. Greyhound transport source
[edit]I have been reading these accusations all over the internet, but is there any source that Lufthansa is transporting greyhounds to Macau? There has not been a statement made by Lufthansa and there is also no report by a news company like CNN or German media. So where is the source for these accusations? Fleet policy - Boeing 777 order

JU-52 D-CDLH
[edit]Hi! I discovered today that Lufthansa owns a restored, airworthy, JU-52, in first-iteration Luft Hansa colors. Should this be added to the fleet list? Though it is not in regular use, it is also not retired, and used for historical flights. The Legacy (talk) 09:03, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
Germanwings accident not included
[edit]It’s very disingenuous that the Germanwings accident Germanwings Flight 9525 is put under another airline.. "Complicity"?
[edit]Is that encyclopedic standard – to use the word "complicity" to describe rendering services in assistance of a lawful action by democratically legitimated public servants? The author of that segment inserted their personal political opinion about illegal immigration into the lemma. Re: Treatment of World War II-era past
[edit]The removal of this section on the grounds that it is "irrelevant because it using years old sources and there is no point in adding this to page now, its strange to make this one line mention now while retrieving an old news source" is not valid. In keeping with Wikipedia's encyclopedic nature, it is of no consequence when a controversy occurred or was written about relative to its inclusion in a Wikipedia article. There is currently some overlap between this article and Lufthansa Group. For example, the subsidiaries of Lufthansa Group are also presented here. Should the articles be merged, or should this article be restricted to Lufthansa Airlines, with information about subsidiaries and other corporate affairs moved to the Group article? - After thinking about it, perhaps it should be merged back here. Even the company's own history can't find a clean line between Lufthansa as an airline and Lufthansa Group. All the Lufthansa Group article really offers right now is some incomplete corporate history and a list of subsidiaries. It doesn't appear that Lufthansa as an airline is a distinct subsidiary within Lufthansa Group, but rather that there is a single entity, Deutsche Lufthansa AG. - Lufthansa Group is part of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, but Deutsche Lufthansa AG itself is again a company in the Lufthansa Group. So the „subsidiary“ (Deutsche Lufthansa AG) owns the „parent company“ (LH Group) and and coordinates the business. Lufthansa German Airlines is part of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and is not seen as a different company. That’s how I understand it. Ben7x (talk) 11:40, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Ben7x @Ibadibam Corporate law/restrcturing is complex, and unless our sourcing makes a very clean/neat distinction between the two, having separate articles does more of a service. This is a good case for a merge, while this article is still short. There is Volkswagen and Volkswagen AG which also ought to be merged, or at least the histories, but it would be a more complex merge now. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:11, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- It seems like there is no actual corporate entity registered as "Lufthansa Group" but rather that this is a name for the entire network of companies consisting of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and its many subsidiaries and subunits. It's tempting to say that Lufthansa should cover Lufthansa German Airlines and Lufthansa Group should cover the whole group as already titled, but since Lufthansa German Airlines itself has subsidiaries, we'd have corporate affairs split between two different articles, which would have to be re-scoped any time the company has a reorganization. Logo and website

- What a company does with its website is mostly not Wikipedia's concern. As for the logo, Lufthansa uses several color variations; I don't think it really adds to the article to show every variation in the article. Ibadibam (talk) 23:24, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Claims re airline banning all Jews from a flight because some Jews on an earlier flight were not wearing masks
[edit]Story here. That source is likely not suitable per WP:RS, but there's an assertion that Frankfurter Algemeine has covered it as well (with a link). - The best non-blog coverage I can find so far is this article in Hamodia. This article in Business Insider uses the Hamodia article as a source but also includes additional independent reporting. CEO(s?)
[edit]The current CEO of Lufthansa Airlines is Jens Ritter, as seen on their company management page, however, he is not listed on this page anywhere and the CEO listen is the CEO of Lufthansa Group.
