Colliding information
[edit]I'm confused by some information that seems out of synch:
1) The North American Women Artists book says that Stanton graduated in 1895 from the Southern Baptist College for Women in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. It also says she attended the Southern Female Seminary in LaGrange before then.
2) Fowler says in this article/page that Stanton graduated from the Southern Female Seminary in 1893, taught the year after (i.e., 1894) at New Ebenezer College in Cochran, Georgia.
Does anyone have any insight into the discrepancy?--CaroleHenson (talk) 16:14, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think I've answered my own question:
- There's no source other than this book that mentions that she graduated from a school (any school) n Arkansas.
- There was an attempt to found a Southern Baptist College for Women in Atlanta, but that fell through, per Fowler. So, that school's charter was moved to Southern Female College to College Park in 1895, now Cox College - i.e., where Lucy May Stanton graduated.
- To avoid any confusion with readers that happen upon the Arkansas info, I'll explain this in a note.--CaroleHenson (talk) 17:23, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
