Source of name

[edit]

While keeping WP:NOTFORUM in mind, I wonder if there's anything notable about the source of this wrestling's federation name, as it appears to have nothing to with pro wrestling... there's currently nothing about this in the article... Roberticus talk 01:47, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

name

[edit]

the AAA website refers to them as "Lucha Libre AAA World Wide", commonly just called "AAA", so I went with the current company name instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MPJ-DK (talkcontribs) 21:04, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Company name

[edit]

So here is the thing, the original name "Asistencia Asesoría y Administración" was only really used from 1992 until sometime in 1995 when Televisa sold the company to Antonio Peña. At that point it became known as "AAA" or "Triple A" on television and at some point after that the legal entity became known as "Lucha Libre AAA World Wide". The original name has been perpetuated here and on several sources around the web but it's over 20 years out of date. I am working on updating Wikipedia to make sure that anything related to after 1995 is either "AAA" or "Lucha Libre AAA World Wide". It is a huge undertaking so if anyone would like to help I would appreciate it.  MPJ-DK  13:10, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@MPJ-DK: I agree with the name change and am very willing to help out, but a few things seem confusing. In the company article, it says "In the mid 2010s the legal name became "Lucha Libre AAA World Wide", although it is still referred to mainly as AAA or 'Triple A'". Not only does it need a source, but if this is correct, then all the changes would happen to related things after "mid 2010". Also, most primary sources seem to refer to the name with "Worldwide" instead of "World Wide". That should also be corrected. Sekyaw (talk) 17:21, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sekyaw I will try to find a source and hopefully nail down the actual date/year for the name change. And I did a quick google on "World wide" vs. "Worldwide" and it looks like "Worldwide" is the prevailing results. Dang I'd have to go back over the changes I've already done. :-(  MPJ-DK  16:57, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MPJ-DK: Haha, I'll try to help out as much as I can. Thank you very much for the response. Sekyaw (talk) 17:01, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Sekyaw: - I found a press conference coverage unveiling the name "Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide" which is from March 3, 2015 - so I believe before that it was simply "AAA" and "Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide" afterward. I am going to try to find a better, more reliable source for it but at least we have a timeline for the name change. As far as I can tell 1992-1995 "Asistencia Asesoría y Administración", 1996-Feb 2015 "AAA", March 2015-present "Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide". I will get a source for the March 2015 date. And thank you for starting on the name changes etc.  MPJ-DK  17:08, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

AAA Worldwide

[edit]

The name "Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide" was recently changed to just "AAA Worldwide" in the lead, alongside a source from AAA's official site calling itself AAA Worldwide. If this is the correct name, the article title should also be changed. We already changed the article title to its current one earlier this year, so I'm not sure on what's correct now. Any ideas? Comment, I have a bit of a question, does WP:COMMONNAME not apply to companies?★Trekker (talk) 20:02, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@*Treker: I would assume that it does indeed apply to companies. I'm not sure how this will work with the AAA name though, as it seems that there are multiple names that represent the company well. Sekyaw (talk) 22:43, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well that is tricky, I just find it weird that the article is at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide instead of something like AAA (wrestling) instead.★Trekker (talk) 22:56, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with the latter is WP:NATDIS. Unless really obscure, a longer version if a name is preferred to a parenthetical disambiguator. I don't know if I'd say including "Lucha Libre" is obscure. oknazevad (talk) 12:19, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Has nothing to do with the phrase being obscure but what about the "worldwide" then, I'd guess that's a newer addition and the "lucha libre" part seems to have been removed recently. I think AAA seems to be the actual name that people use in general which would make it the simplest name to use. Not sure why a longer name is prefered when it seems easier to just use AAA (wrestling), it feels contradictory (wikipedia appears to have this often) to the policy.★Trekker (talk) 15:33, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
