Primary sources rather than the secondary or tertiary ones we prefer but there are documents on Ancestry and in the Exploring Surrey's Past ref that give some different dates. His passport application in 1917 has his date of birth as 26 August 1880. A 1931 ID card has 26 August 1881 and the 1939 Register 26 August 1883. The US Census of April 1930 has his age last birthday as 50 so 1879 may be right. The Surrey, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1997 record has 24 September 1957 as the date of his burial and U.S., Reports of Deaths of American Citizens Abroad, 1835-1974 has his date of death as 17 September 1957.
