Step-by-step review
[edit]Infobox and lead
[edit]- Place of birth: reference needed (no source mentions Dilsen-Stokkem). I would put it in the 'Early life' section.
- I couldn't find an RS. WST suggests it's somewhere else, but some non-RS confirm this location. I've removed it as ambiguous. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:25, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
He is the youngest player to compete in the World Snooker Championship, making his debut in 2012, aged 17 years and 45 days, and the first player from mainland Europe to have won the event.
→ I would specify the age in the article body and also move the reference to the 'Early professional years' subsection. The lead should include as few references as possible.- Moved to body. I hadn't realised we hadn't put the same info in the body. Fixed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:33, 3 March 2024 (UTC)
- Same issue with references No. 4 & 5.
Early life
[edit]- Luca Brecel was born on 8 March 1995. →
Luca Brecel was born on 8 March 1995 in Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium.
He was removed from school so that he could be home tutored and spend more time practicing the game.
→ It would be interesting to know his age when he left school.- Hey BennyOnTheLoose - do you have the May 23 Snooker Scene? That's what this is cited too, any ideas if they gave a date? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 17:51, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Lee Vilenski No, it doesn't give a date or any clues. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 17:09, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Professional career
[edit]→ Generally, the 'Early professional years' subsection might be a little too long and overly detailed. I suggest you summarize this period of his career a little more. We don't need to know every frame he played or every oponent he faced from 2011 to 2015. Focus on major accomplishments and major tournaments he participated in. It would be better if the 'Early professional years' subsection was more or less the same size as the 'First ranking event win' one.
- Indeed. I've killed off some of the over killed bit. Should be better now. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:05, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Brecel became the youngest ever player to qualify for the World Snooker Championship at the 2012 event, after defeating Ian McCulloch, Barry Pinches, Michael Holt and Mark King. →
At 17 years and 45 days of age, Brecel became the youngest ever player to qualify for the World Snooker Championship at the 2012 event, after defeating Ian McCulloch, Barry Pinches, Michael Holt and Mark King.
- Changed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 17:58, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- There are several issues with the linking of certain names/articles. Some names (Mark Selby, Jimmy Robertson and Zhao Xintong for example) are overlinked. An article should only be linked once. MOS:REPEATLINK
- I've gone ahead and removed a load of these. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:11, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- I would add a few more images in the body of the article, like File:German-Masters-2016 Wilson-Brecel.JPG ('First ranking event win' section), File:Luca Brecel EuM 2022-1.jpg and/or File:Luca Brecel EuM 2022-3.jpg ('Ranking titles and world champion').
- I've added two of these, I agree it makes sense. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 17:56, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
Career finals
[edit]Amateur titles
[edit]- If the references for his professional finals and titles can be found in the previous sections, we need references for the most of the titles that are displayed here. I don't know if a particular database or site brings together most of these amateur titles but there definitely needs to be one or more references within this section.
Suggestion of sections
[edit]→ You could develop and enrich your article a little more, and add 'Playing style' (Strengths and weaknesses, approach, personality, handedness etc.) and/or 'Personal life' (Favourite players, football club, film etc.) sections, using references you have used before (such as the 2009 Eurosport article entitled Right on cue: Luca Brecel). A 'Playing style' section would be especially pertinent for a player of this importance.
- The personal life sections is almost always fluff or cruft unless they have high profile incidents about them. From experience, trying to create a playing style is very difficult to source, as it's almost always only spoken about on TV broadcasts, rather than in text. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:51, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
First assessment
[edit]@Lee Vilenski After this first review, I don't see any major problems appearing in this article. On the whole, it would pass the GA nomination after some revisions. The entire text is well written and covers most of the important aspects of Brecel's life. References are pertinent and consistently formatted. However, I think there are still small corrections and adjustments to be made. Some subsections need to be more concise and summarized. The article seems a little too dense and sometimes too detailed. I let you read the few comments made above and look forward to your feedback and modifications. Thanks!
- thanks, I'll take a look through this as soon as I can. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:39, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
