Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (your reason here) Low-threshold primary health care outlets are increasingly offering valuable health care services to the people who use illicit drugs. These are low-threshold because they reduce the threshold (barriers) drug users often face while they try to access health care services from the conventional health care outlets. There are many factors that work as barriers, most important of which is 'social stigma'. These low-threshold primary health care is now an important pillar of 'harm reduction', as these are, in fact, either needle-syringe program outlets augmented to offer primary health care, opioid substitution therapy (OST) clinics or stand alone centres offering primary health care services tailored to the needs of people who use illict drugs. Literature clearly suggest that these low-threshold health care centres have the potential to reduce drug users utilisation of costly emergency department along with providing preventive health care to this socially marginalised group.

Based on WIKEPEDIA's notification of speedy deletion... I have tried to improve the article so that it does not sound like promoting any individual's work or promoting any companies out of any vested interest. I can gurantee that I have no conflict of interest and that I have no interst of gaining any personal benefit out of this, other than expressing scientific findings that these low-threshold health care outlets are an important avenue of health care for drug using populations.

Please feel free to notify me if there is anything I can do to improve this very valuable piece of work that may potentially help much needed health care for the people who use illicit drugs.

However, even with this above-mentioned reasons if WIKIPEDIA finds it's still worthy of 'speedy deletion..' then please do so.

Sincerely yours Feeha (talk) 07:40, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take a stab at reworking this article. I don't like the title of this article, though. I think it needs to be renamed/moved, but that's a secondary issue. Stigmatella aurantiaca (talk) 12:57, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Low-threshold primary health care outlet is a relatively new model of healthcare, and this model is increasingly gaining popularitySamantha-ann younes (talk) 00:12, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Stigmatella aurantiaca for your great work. It really reads well. I think it now reads nicely as an article. Regards Feeha (talk) 03:24, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Feeha and Stigmatella, I think ‘Low-threshold health care for drug user’ would be the best title. The word ‘Treatment’ has got different meaning in different settings. For instance, consultation with a GP (general physician) is not considered as treatment in many parts of the world. But ‘GP consultation’ certainly is ‘health care’. Therefore, I would prefer ‘Low-threshold health care for drug user’ or just ‘Low-threshold health care’ be the title. Cheers, Samantha-ann younes (talk) 03:52, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's way too many words to type. Ease of typing trumps precision, in this case. There is unfortunately no dominant term for this type of facility. I did a lot of Googling to try to find a satisfactory term that would serve as a title, and found nothing that left me very happy. Stigmatella aurantiaca (talk) 04:26, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To give you an idea of the problems finding a good title, here is a list of redirects that I had to create, because "low threshold" and "low-threshold" are not the same, nor "health care" and "healthcare".
"Low threshold healthcare for drug users"
"Low-threshold healthcare for drug users"
"Low-threshold health care for drug users"
"Low threshold health care for drug users"
"Low-threshold health care"
"Targeted primary health care"
"Low threshold harm reduction"
"Low threshold services"
"Low-threshold harm reduction"
"Low-threshold services"
