The South Carolina Canal and Rail Road Company was incorporated under act of South Carolina on December 19, 1827, amended January 30, 1828. In 1830-1833, the company constructed a 136-mile railroad line between Charleston, South Carolina and Hamburg, South Carolina, across the Savannah River from Augusta, Georgia. In 1839, the Louisville, Cincinnati and Charleston Railroad Company acquired certain stock interests in the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company and controlled the corporation thereafter. The company was still operated under the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company name until the two companies were consolidated in 1844 (by act of South Carolina of December 19, 1843) under the name South Carolina Rail Road Company. During no period of time was the company's legal name Charleston and Hamburg Railroad. The company operated a railroad line between those two South Carolina locations but any reference to Charleston and Hamburg Railroad was just a short hand or nickname for referring to the two terminals between which the railroad operated. A portion of "History" needs to be fixed

[edit]

Currently, the History section contains this text, which is punctuated as a sentence:

Partly because the company was unable to obtain a charter through all states on the planned line the original plan was abandoned.

This needs some sort of change. Maybe a well-placed comma will suffice. However, maybe some other edit would be better. To do the change properly, reference (2) should be re-examined. I will leave that to others. Oaklandguy (talk) 04:45, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
