Montagnais and Chipewyan
[edit]The French speaking missionaries to the North-West of the Red River Settlement referred to the Dene as Montagnais in their documents written in French. Montagnais therefore has often been translated to Montagnais which now refers to the Montagnais (Innu language) of northern Quebec. The correct translation of Montagnais in this case is Chipewyan or Dene . Lafleche learned Chipewyan to communicate with the Chipewyan of the Ile a la Crosse Mission. .Kayoty 18:19, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
