Maureen Beale

[edit]

I now know where mystery Maureen came from. I was searching through an EE archive of the official website and found Lou's old profile [1] Gungadin 23:46, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah ha! What do we do with this information? anemone|projectors 00:04, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know to be honest, but I just thought I'd mention it because there was talk a while back that Maureen was not mentioned in any other media apart from the "Who's who" book and was a mistake by the author, but this shows that she was mentioned. I can't remember why it was decided that Dora was an official daughter and Maureen wasn't. Dora i'm assuming is short for Doreen, maybe they just changed that to Maureen later on, as it sounds similar lol. Or, seeing as Lou actually confirmed on-screen that she gave bith to Norma, perhaps Norma is some shortened form of Maureen? Gungadin 18:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the names Norma and Maureen are related (as I work for a Norma), but Dora, Norma and Maureen are all slightly similar. Hmmmmmm I don't know what to do. I need a reminder of where "Dora" came from. We normally trust what's said on-screen over the other media... help, Trampikey! anemone|projectors 20:53, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dora came from those spin-off novels that Trampikey read. I dont think that name has been mentioned anywhere else, but neither has Maureen as far as I know. Norma is the only one that has been mentioned on-screen very briefly in 1985, and then never again. Maybe Lou had all of these kids. Didnt they have contraception in those days :) Gungadin 21:26, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We normally go with what's on-screen, which would be Norma, but... I don't know. Leave it as it is... less trouble that way! ;) anemone|projectors 23:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I discovered this old thread on DS [2] They're discussing Maureen Beale, and some people say that Lou mentioned on-screen that Maureen had died while she was giving birth. I know this is not a reliable source as it's a forum, but our page here says that Maureen was never mentioned on-screen, and I dont want to put out false info. Seeing as more sources talk about Maureen, and only one (arguably non-canon) book mentions Dora, do you think we should change Dora to Maureen, and remove that she was not mentioned on-screen? Gungadin 23:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

another inconsistency. On xmas day 1987, Lou talks about her siblings. Five brothers and three sisters that time. Gungadin 17:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maiden Name: Medeemey

[edit]

What is the source for this please? I don't know if it was mentioned in the series.92.239.30.227 (talk) 20:01, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed this as it wasn't ever mentioned in the series, in Civvy Street or in the Hugh Miller novels. I'm pretty sure the Medeemeys were the Irish family who adopted Maggie, so it was Maggie's maiden name, and over time people have come to assume that it's Lou's maiden name. 31.48.121.128 (talk) 17:06, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't known who Maggie was adopted by. Though I haven't read them I believe she is called Lou Medeemey in some of Miller's novels. In CivvyStreet her sister was Flo Medeemey. Are you sure she isn't called Lou Medeemey in the novels? — ᴀnemoneᴘroᴊecтors 18:36, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
her name isn’t Medeemey in the Hugh Miller novels. Medeemey was Maggie Flaherty’s adopted name, not Lou’s maiden name. 213.205.194.200 (talk) 11:01, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall that Maggie's adopted name was ever revealed, she was just known by her married name, Flaherty. But I'll trust you on Lou's maiden name because in CivvyStreet, her mother was just called "Lou's mother", and when Flo appeared in EastEnders, she wasn't credited. I assumed the person who added the surname had read the novels. It was User:Gungadin back in 2006, and then User:Trampikey restored it every time it was removed until it just stayed in the article, and I know Trampikey had read the novels. — ᴀnemoneᴘroᴊecтors 13:06, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If I recall rightly, there was some sort of paperwork that Pauline got hold of when she discovered she had a sister Maggie. That's where Medeemey was seen I think but I have not seen this in a long time and memory on this is fading now. The name was also published in a magazine celebrating 20 years of EE as Lou's maiden name but I dont think this was an official BBC publication. It was not clear or specified what the name referred to at the time if it was in the show. I recall some discussion at WP:EE that it might have been referencing the maiden name or might have referenced adoption name. I think it's always been supposition on here and therefore removing it is the right decision. I dont know re the Miller books. --GunGagdinMoan 01:55, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Gungadin! That's that then. — 🌼📽️AnemoneProjectors💬 08:21, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Albert and Lou

[edit]

The article here says that Albert and Lou's marriage began in 1939 and ended in 1970. But Albert Beale died in 1965 which would dissolve their marriage after he died. It also said that Harry Beale was the first legitmate child born to Albert and Lou, but he was born in 1936. So shouldn't their marriage be from 1936-1970 and not from 1939-1970? Arjoccolenty (talk) 20:37, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did Albert die in 1965 or 1970? Was Harry born in 1939 or 1936? These things ought to be sourced, or at least someone should check all the conflicting facts and tell us where they found it. –anemoneprojectors12:48, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly, in 1986, Pauline referred to herself as their first born child after Lou gave Albert's watch to Simon. — ᴀnemoneᴘroᴊecтors 13:07, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
