Redirect or disambiguation page?
[edit]Why redirect? Better a list of possible Lotus Reanult. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ingen Alls (talk • contribs) 13:30, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree. Just because Renault's F1 team is now officially Lotus Renault doesn't change the fact Lotuses powered by Renaults pre-existed it & are called Lotus-Renaults (& are probably going to be searched as Lotus Renault by people who don't know better...). This leaves them not knowing where to go. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 04:12, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- I disagree, and can't see anyone wanting either the new or old Team Lotuses searching for "Lotus Renault". This is undoubtedly a case of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC—Google Lotus Renault and see how many results you get that are about Team Lotus, new or old (and not about the two modern constructors "Renault" and "Lotus"). A hatnote at Lotus Renault GP is sufficient. JonChappleTalk 06:37, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- People know bit formel 1 this year say Lotus for green Lotus, not black Lotus. Green Lotus Renault is called Lotus, black Lotus Renault is not called Lotus, black Lotus Renault is called Renault. So is it also on Wikipedia. Both is Lotus Renault. "Lotus Renault" must show both.Ingen Alls (talk) 07:05, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm aware that when people say "Lotus" on its own it usually refers to Team Lotus, and accordingly, the Lotus page is a disambig (as is Lotus F1, which redirects there). However, when people say "Lotus Renault", they are invariably referring to Lotus Renault GP (the primary topic). I'll also again point you back to the hatnote at the Renault F1 article, which you seem intent on ignoring. JonChappleTalk 08:28, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

- A hat note is not enough, when two or three teams have equal use of the same name combination. People don't say just Lotus Renault now, because there are two teams by that name this year, each with equal right to the name. I suppose JonChapple is on the paylist of one of them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.250.46.170 (talk) 16:55, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Google "Lotus Renault" and see what you get. Then tell me Lotus Renault GP isn't the primary topic. JonChappleTalk 17:06, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

- For 2011 a disambiguation page should have been the best, but now that season is over. For the coming season of 2012, it might as well redirect to the black Lotus team, as the green one will be renamed anyway. Google hits may show what's used but doesn't say what's right. Things have changed since this discussion began - we now have the new Lotus F1 and Team Lotus (2010-11) articles - so I think this page needs to revert to a disambiguation page something like this:
Lotus Renault or Lotus-Renault may refer to:
- the Renault-engined Formula One cars raced by Team Lotus from 1983-1986
the Renault-engined Formula One cars raced by Lotus Racing in 2010- the Renault-engined Formula One cars raced by Team Lotus in 2011
- the Lotus Renault GP team which raced in Formula One in 2011
- the Renault-engined Formula One cars which will be raced by Lotus F1 Team in 2012
Comments? DH85868993 (talk) 03:06, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- I support DH85868993's proposal. Lotus Renault or Lotus-Renault may really mean all of those, except for 2010 Lotus Racing cars that were Lotus-Cosworths. --August90 (talk) 04:00, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- Of course! How stupid of me. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 04:07, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- I suppose my position is fairly clear from reading my comments above, but I still support a redirect to the team that are still calling themselves Lotus Renault GP (Lotus F1 Team). Until they officially rebrand, a hatnote is sufficient as they're still the primary topic. JonCTalk 13:04, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

- I support turning it into a disambiguation page. There are too many similar sounding but different teams it could be referring to. I don't believe the new Lotus team is the primary topic, as they are clearly just Lotus now, compared to being Renault last year. QueenCake (talk) 13:56, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- They're still Lotus Renault GP, though. They haven't actually referred to themselves as anything other than that; it's everyone else that's calling them Lotus. JonCTalk 14:04, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- If everyone else is calling them Lotus this year, then it's their common name. I don't think the team have ever been referred to as just Lotus Renault over the past year, it's always been either Renault, or Lotus Renault GP. To me there is to much ambiguity over the term Lotus Renault to support having a redirect. QueenCake (talk) 15:01, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- It appears that they are now also calling themselves "Lotus" - since yesterday www.lotusrenaultgp.com redirects to www.lotusf1team.com, which bears a logo reading "Lotus F1 Team". DH85868993 (talk) 23:21, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well spotted! Another vote for a disambiguation page here now. JonCTalk 00:56, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
