Although Los Rojos have won the upper hand against Los Metros for leadership in the Gulf Cartel, I don't know if we can conclude that they are the "armed wing" of the cartel. Los Escorpiones, which were the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel during the reign of Antonio Cardenas Guillen, were still alive in February 2012. They were fighting Los Ciclones, another group in the CDG.[1] I've heard that Los Ciclones is the equivalent of Los Escorpiones, but there is no proof of that yet.
