"His mind is intact"?
[edit]The article contains the line:
- His mind is intact and he continues to enjoy music and having people read to him.
I hope for Lorenzo's sake that this is true, but I think we need a cite. The last I heard on this subject, there was some controversy about whether he could really understand. Alki 01:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps I have more research to do on the topic, but I just finished rewatching Lorenzo's Oil and the "epilogue" stated that, as of film making in 1992, Lorenzo had regained his sight, could move his head, and could communicate via simple sounds. I'll look into it, but anyone know more on the topic?? 68.103.242.142 07:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC) DKL
Hi this is Edward Lucas, Lorenzo's brother-in-law. The phrase "bleeding heavily" is a mistake, possibly because of a journalist misunderstanding my father-in-law's pronunciation. It should be "breathing heavily". On the film: I am sorry to say that the epilogue to the film was too optimistic. I am parti pris so won't make the changes myself but would be glad if someone else would

I have to agree with you, I lost my son at the age of 7 he was diagnosed with ALD in its worst form, no one will ever know what it is about if they havent gone thru it themselves. I am sorry for the loss of your Bother-in-Law. Sunly-Ann —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.243.198.20 (talk) 14:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi - sadly he didn't regain any more movement, vocal speech or vision before he died, no. unsigned comment added by Special:Contributions/catherinespark (talk) 15:22, 7 June 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.216.240 (talk)
Grapeseed or Rapeseed?
[edit]The section Quest for a treatment currently says: " ... Lorenzo's oil. It is a mixture of olive and grapeseed oil." I'm pretty sure that should be rapeseed oil. AdderUser (talk) 07:12, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. I changed this to reflect the correct oil mixture. Grapeseed and rapeseed (canola) oil both exist, and are two very different oils.
- From the aforementioned site created by Lorenzo's family:
- "Despite research dead ends, the horror of watching their son's health decline, and being surrounded by skeptics (including the coordinators of the support group they attended), they persisted until they finally hit upon a therapy involving adding a certain kind of oil (actually containing two specific long chain fatty acids, isolated from rapeseed [canola] oil and olive oil) to their son's diet."
