It's very curious that the title of 1690 passed to daughters while those of 1697 did not, all being in the Peerage of Scotland. Was there, during those few years, a change in the customary form of Scottish patents, from remainder to heirs general to remainder to heirs male?

Or did the first peerage have a special remainder? Meseems there are more instances where the later peerage survived by a special remainder when the earlier one went extinct. —Tamfang (talk) 22:16, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
