There are numerous Doric columns taller than this structure. Clickbait articles suggesting otherwise are in error. For example, Perry's Victory Monument in Ohio is 352 feet high, nearly three times higher. This stuff is not hard to look up. --Likearolingston (talk) 04:34, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The Monument in London is the tallest Doric column in the world no the Lord Hill's Column

No, London's Monument is taller as a whole, but the doric column portion is shorter than Shrewsbury's.

NO your both wrong its perry's monument on put-in-bay in Ohio —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.62.141.30 (talk) 23:14, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is the Lord's Hill Column the tallest Doric column?

[edit]

Probably not, as noted by the above comment. That American monument would seem to be taller, certain erroneous sources notwithstanding. --Tdimhcs (talk) 21:26, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Having visited the Fire Monument in London and looked at the receipt it says that the Fire Monument (202 feet/ 62m) is the world's tallest Doric column.--Caparn (talk) 14:32, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have read in histories and guides to Shrewsbury and Shropshire this monument had the tallest Doric column in Europe, a different goalpost to worldwide.Cloptonson (talk) 18:53, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed

[edit]

Some updating is needed on the last paragraph or so which gives the history of the column since 2013, as two subsequent events in 2015 and 2016 are written about as if both in the future. Were these events realised?Cloptonson (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pleased to note the updating within the past 4 years. I have made a tense change to statement it WAS to eventually commence in May 2020 but I suspect the Covid19 lockdown may well have caused a postponement.Cloptonson (talk) 18:50, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
