Merger Proposal

[edit]

Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench is a redirect to Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. For consistency, I suggest that Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench for Ireland be merged into Lord Chief Justice of Ireland.

Pre-1377

[edit]

Before about 1377, the list seems to be similar to that in List of Lords Lieutenant of Ireland. Robert de Ashton served briefly in mid-1372 according to his DNB article. Compare the list in Ball, F. Elrington The Judges in Ireland 1221–1921 John Murray London 1926, PP 37-8. That list gives the predecessor of John Keppock as William de Skipwith (1370-2), preceded by Keppock's first term ((1367-70), Thomas de la Dale (1365-7), Richard White (Irish judge) (1363-5), William de Notton (1361-3), John de Rednesse, (1346-51, 1354-6, 1359-61), William le Petit, (1359), Richard de Wirkeley (1356), Godfrey de Foljambe (1351-4), Henry de Motlowe (1346), John le Hunt (1345-6), Robert de Scardeburgh, (1333-4 "but probably did not act", 1344-5), Thomas de Dent (1341-4), Elias de Asshebournham (1330-1, 1337, 1337-8, 1338-41), Thomas Louth, (1332-3, 1334-7, 1337, 1338), Peter Tilliol (1331-2), Nicholas Fastolf (1324-7, 1328-30) (his article says that 'according to some sources he was the first judge to hold the office of Lord Chief Justice of Ireland'), Henry de Hambury, (1327-8). I propose to replace the current pre-1377 list with the above.Alekksandr (talk) 20:07, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now done. Alekksandr (talk) 17:00, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
