Quoted statement about Germany in 1872 queried (section Career)

[edit]

I question Lord Arthur Russell being the "Lord Russell" responsible for the passage quoted at the end of this section and introduced in this sentence:

The ideological gulf between Britain and the new German Empire was stressed by Lord Russell in 1872:

It could easily have been his brother Lord Odo Russell who was then British Ambassador in Germany. This needs checking. Alas the reference link does not turn up a readable page.Cloptonson (talk) 19:09, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cloptonson: The link works for me - this is a common problem with links to Google books, some people get access to readable text, some don't, and nobody knows wherefore. Anyway, the text does say Lord Arthur Russell, and gives the date 16 February 1872. It goes on to say Odo Russell was in general agreement with it. Thank you, that settles the issue.Cloptonson (talk) 16:15, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
