Looe old town did not have houses where boats were stored under living accommodation. Looe old town is built on a sand bar and most properties do not have proper foundations. In fact old town is only 1/2metre above tide level and water ingresses and gresses under town with each tide. The recently built RNLI Station had piles bored to 30mtrs in sand without hitting rock. User Boatmans Why has Polperro got a longer article than Looe? Come on you Looers, surely someone can write a longer and more informative article than this. --Portnadler 19:08, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Looe was certainly an example of the inequalities of Parliamentary representation prior to the 1832 Reform Act, but I wouldn't call it an "archetypal rotten borough". That distinction belongs to Old Sarum. --Portnadler 21:48, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Have had a stab at expanding this - some dates may be a little iffy though as various sources (only able to research via google at the moment) contradict each other (same with those Cornish spellings). Will try and get some more definitive data (and maybe some more pics) over the Yuletide... JohnnyZen 16:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

This is much better. I'll see if I can help to add more when I get a bit of time. Thanks --Portnadler 17:21, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

The History setcion (Development, Trade and Politics) states that Admiral Sir Charles Wager began his political career in West Looe (1713-1715), but on the page for Charles Wager it shows him as having held Portsmouth MP position prior to this from 1711. Does anyone have references to back either of these up, either way? Zangar (talk) 11:38, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Seems likely that the dates on the Wager page are sourced from somewhere, while the wording here was just a bit loose - have reworded slightly to remove confusion JohnnyZen (talk) 09:14, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

This article was heavily overlinked, and I've removed many of them. Please see WP:OLINK for guidelines. Portnadler (talk) 18:03, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Portlooe

I've removed the reference to Portlooe, because the associated link to a picture in the Tate Gallery was in fact of Portloe on the Roseland peninsula. Feel free to resurrect a link to Portlooe near Looe, if there is anything worth saying about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Portnadler (talkcontribs) 12:33, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
