If he didn't offer any money I find it odd he was arrested.

What weird laws. 172.201.157.10 15:33, 6 January 2006 (UTC) Craig Rigby[reply]

Yes, and laws likely supported at least in spirit by his congregation and denomination. Oddly, outside of his support for the Baptist Faith and Message (to which any opposition would be token) I haven't been able to find any specific examples on the web of Latham participating in gay-bashing...his comments are either too low-profile to show up on the Internet, or more subdued in anti-gay rhetoric than some of the media reports might make him out to be. Is the arrest of someone most have never heard of suddenly encyclopedic just because he got arrested?? - Rlvaughn 21:47, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Latham and anti-gay messages

[edit]

Someone on DemocraticUnderground.com said that they've seen him on television spewing anti-gay messages. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=52315#52354

I can see if I can track that down, if you think it's worth it?

If the guy decides to defend himself in court, he quite possibly could become "encyclopedic" as he creates legal precedent questioning the constitutionality of the "lewdness" statute.

Even as the case stands, it still (IMHO) makes an interesting case study and/or cautionary tale on several issues.

Too much info?

[edit]

I can't help feeling this page is way too detailed as a record of a local scandal. Surely in 5 years people won't want to read all this, and it is certainly not biographical as it almost entirely focuses on his publicised resignation issue (including photo). I'm inclined to mark it as needing editing after being a one-month wonder. Is anyone interested enough to comment?

Potentially encyclopedic and glad it's here

[edit]

Well, this is awkward. I am reading this five years after Johnrobb's unsigned comment. There's other articles for people who were only notable for having been involved in scandals, and, rather than any old scandal, this is one that could be relevant to trends surrounding LGBTQ acceptance in Tulsa, or Oklahoma, or the Southern Baptist Convention. The article has a lot of style problems but I'm glad it is here anyway since it's one of the few Internet pages about him which attempts NPOV.
