The result of the move request was: Moved Longest Day to Longest Day (novel), Longest Day as now redirecting to The Longest Day. per discussion consensus via compromise. No need to move the current DAB page, when it appears most entries have "the". So instead, "Longest Day" serves best as a redirect to the current DAB, per discussion consensus. There was no consensus present to rename the current (book) so I have left it alone. Questions? Concerns? Check out my talk page. – There are 12 entries listed upon The Longest Day disambiguation page, with this entry — a six-sentence stub delineating the Doctor Who novel Longest Day — not using "The". There is also another book — the D-day history The Longest Day (book). Although one book title uses "The" and the other does not, a novel is also a book, thus it might seem intuitive to indicate that one book is a "(novel)" and the other is a "(history book)". Finally, if there is support for the form Longest Day (novel), "Longest Day" becomes available, so that the disambiguation page itself can be moved from "The Longest Day" to "Longest Day". — Roman Spinner(talk • contribs)01:48, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. "Longest Day" is not the same as "The Longest Day", so there is no title conflict. Pageviews show Longest Day getting only 4 views per day compared to 145 for The Longest Day and over a thousand for The Longest Day (film). That means that very few readers are getting lost under the current setup, and those very few need only click on this article's hatnote to get to The Longest Day. Besides that, it's improper to title the dab page "Longest Day" when almost every title being disambiguated uses "The Longest Day". Station1 (talk) 06:18, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But the pageviews show that a significant minority is not searching without "The". Even assuming every reader landing on Longest Day is searching without the "The", that's still only 4 out of 145, or <3%. Station1 (talk) 05:21, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't show how many people wanted or didn't want this article (when they used the internal search) but it does show the other gets significantly more views indicating its likely most didn't. Plus there are more than just these uses such as the generic meanings. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:30, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If consensus develops that the books Longest Day (novel) and The Longest Day (book) are sufficiently disambiguated from each other by the fact that one uses "The" in the title, while the other does not use "The" in the title, then there is no need for the middle nomination The Longest Day (book) → The Longest Day (history book). However, if consensus does feel that "The" represents insufficient differentiation between the two books, then the use of "(1959 book)" for the D-Day chronicle might suggest the analogous use of "(1998 book)", instead of "(novel)" for the Doctor Who novel. —Roman Spinner(talk • contribs)10:33, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
