The station has retained a lot of its local railway charm, and is very different from the monoblock new stations that the Metro system has such as North Shields.

"Local railway charm" is a matter of opinion of course, but the statement about North Shields is inaccurate. In fact, the present North Shields station not only pre-dates the Metro system, but is older than Longbenton station by several decades, though admittedly retaining few if any of its original features. (Perhaps the author was thinking of South Shields?)

Indeed the only items that place it as a station in the latter part of the 20th century and 2000s are the vending machines and the style of the newspaper vendor in the concourse.

This was arguably the case before the station was refurbished. It certainly is not true today - GWK's refurbishment has given much of the station a very contemporary look, as can be seen from the images on their website. 217.155.20.163 19:29, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
