Questions
[edit]- How does it take about 15 minutes for most trains to go from LIC to HuntersPoint (per LIRR schedules) ?
- Trains idle for a while at Hunterspoint Avenue. The trains leave early from LIC to free up yard space for use by westbound deadheads.Cluefinder42 (talk) 02:44, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
- With that much time, you could walk between the two stations. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 14:33, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- With only 50 trains per week, how much longer can this station be truly said to be on the Main Line (rather than the tracks to Penn [not owned by LIRR])?--JimWae (talk) 21:40, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
- This designation goes back to the original LIRR when Long Island City was the westernmost terminal. The East River Tunnels to Penn Station did not open until 1910. Also, LIC is chaining zero for the LIRR main line.Cluefinder42 (talk) 02:44, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Two LIC stations, both named Hunters Point
[edit]As I've mentioned on the WP:NYPT talk page, I found a new link (New York and Vicinity Railroad Map from 1860 (BrooklynRail.net)) indicating two Long Island City stations, both of which are named "Hunters Point Station;" One from the New York and Flushing Railroad, which is used today, and another from the LIRR, which looks like it might be the "North Freight Spur" leading to Gantry Plaza State Park. I've seen maps of these before in the past, but I never considered using them to do anything about this article. Maybe I'll work on it when I get back from New York at the end of the month. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 14:19, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
