Error in article
[edit]I do not have the skills to add footnotes to this Wikipedia article on Oatley Park, but would like to bring your attention to an error in the article.
Two Gallipoli pines were planted in Oatley Park by Sapper Owen Jones Davies (Service No. 3297), a World War One veteran, during 1935. Only one tree has survived to this day beside the entrance to the park, the other was destroyed by a bushfire on a date unrecorded. [Source: File on Oatley Park Gallipoli pine at Local Studies, Hurstville Library, 2023].The date of 1920 on the plaque inscription at the base of the tree is in error. The trees were initially in the hands of a Mr. T. Mullard, 28 Rosemont Avenue, Mortdale, of the Mortdale Sub-branch of the RSL, who on 16th May 1935 had offered the two trees to the Hurstville Municipal Council for planting at Oatley Park. [Sources: File on Oatley Park Gallipoli pine at Local Studies, Hurstville Library, 2023; Propeller (Hurstville), 23 May 1935; The St George Call, Fri 17 May 1935, Page 5; The Daily Telegraph, Fri 5 Jul 1935, Page 6.) The latter two news articles are available online through NLA Trove. The Propeller newspaper article is not. Gallip pine (talk) 23:04, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
