"Prehistoric structures built up to 5,000 years ago have survived"
[edit]--Mais oui! (talk) 04:38, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting. They are described as "very preliminary results" but worth watching out for. I can see we are going to need an article for the whole Stenness-Brodgar complex. Ben MacDui 09:32, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- These developments and discoveries in recent years just keep on coming. One wonders where we are going to end up. --Mais oui! (talk) 19:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
A separate article for Loch of Harray and is Stenness fresh or seawater?
[edit]Hi The article seems to be about two lochs, Stenness and Harray. Perhaps Harray, the bigger loch, should have its own article? Also the article says "two freshwater lochs" in the first paragraph and that Stenness is salt water in the infobox. The survey says Stenness is salt water. Any thoughts? - It's a tricky one as from the ordinary observer's point of view they are certainly two different lochs, but they are also connected from a hydrological point of view. I'd say two articles would be much better, especially as Murray and Pullar provide different stats for them. Stenness is "the largest brackish lagoon in the UK" [1]. - I agree, I think it's better to have two articles but keep them closely linked. If we have two then we can more accurately complete the infoboxes for each loch from the Murray's bathymetrical survey (or something more modern). I will make a start on it soon. - Hmm I think I need some help if you know how to do this. The Loch of Harray redirects automatically to the Loch of Stenness page so I'm not sure how I should go about making the article for Harray. It's like we need to decouple Harray and Stenness lochs. Triptropic (talk) 21:18, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- Easy - just go to Loch of Harray, remove #REDIRECT [[Loch of Stenness]] and type in something else in its place. Redirect pages are no different from articles from that point of view. It's only a problem if you wanted to move the existing article to Loch of Harray - that would require admin action in order to delete the existing page. Ben MacDui 08:04, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- That WAS easy. I've learned another new thing about editing! I won't remove the the redirect tho until I've prepared the article. TY Triptropic (talk) 20:17, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
