Natural lake or not?
[edit]The info box declares this to be a natural lake and yet it has a dam (and mentioned in the body of the article) - I doubt it was the work of beavers. Of course there are a large proportion of reservoirs (in Wales and elsewhere) which began as natural lakes and which were modified to provide water for one purpose or another - ought it (and such others) to be tagged as modified natural lake' or something? cheers Geopersona (talk) 06:02, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- Both Ordnance survey and NRW declare it to be a reservoir and it clearly has a dam. Whether there was a smaller lake before the dam was constructed is probably hard to determine so I believe it should be termed a reservoir.....but then those beavers are tricky little beasts! - Since its depth is declared to be 71ft and the dam (labelled 'weir' on the 1887/88 map - see https://maps.nls.uk/view/101606541) is small (see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1816843) then I think we can reasonably imagine a lake of the same general shape as that we're familiar with, existing prior to 1874. - incidentally, I wonder if in the next few years, we may yet see some UK beaver dams listed on Wikipedia? cheers Geopersona (talk) 08:53, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
