"The kid"? "old buddy"? This is clearly written by someone trying to either A) glorify him, or B) try to sound like English is the author's native language when it clearly isn't. It would be great if someone could make a copy-editing pass over this garbage heap. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.99.33.32 (talk) 00:45, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you are referring to this version that you tagged as being in need of a copy edit. Sadly, I don't think the problems you noticed have been resolved and may have been made worse. For one, the use of the word "got, which is the past tense of the vowel "to get", and means "to obtain, buy or earn something, give or receive something, or take possession of something or someone" seems to have increased. The "something" that one "gets" is described the following noun. However, if one undergoes a change of state, such as being arrested or sentenced, one does not get a concrete object, but undergoes some sort of action to change one's status. In that case, using "was" is better English than using "got" because the following word is not a noun. Such constructions can often be rewritten more concisely. For example: "L got arrested by the Police" can be rewritten as "Police arrested L" with no loss of meaning and is more understandable as it uses fewer words and uses the active voice. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 09:18, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
