Hi, my name is Verna and I was assigned from my Mass Communications class to critique an article. Live Media is a good topic to write about because it's very popular, especially in this generation. However, you don't provide much information on the topic itself. Everything is relevant to the subject matter but it should require more info. Also, you did not cite your sources. Where did you get your information from? It's important to cite your sources, so you won't be accused of plagiarism. Since you mentioned social media, you can state the various types of social media. I know periscope is a popular streaming site/app where people can do live streams. People from all over will be able to see what you're doing. This is another great example you can talk about. I know a lot of famous people do live media streams, so you can indicate that. You can definitely write a lot for Live Media! Be sure to cite your sources though. Hope to work with you and any future wikipedians. Vernae2 (talk) 23:29, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Vernae2: Nice addition to the page and nice find on the source!Prof.bgreg (talk) 12:52, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My Contribution

[edit]

Hello, I've come up with different ideas in order to contribute to the article itself. I want to mention about the different apps/website that one can use in order to live stream. Such include, periscope, facebook live, and youtube mobile live streaming. I can also talk about how it can effect us along with social media. Also, the pros and and cons to live media. I found various sources that should help me edit this article. Vernae2 (talk) 00:33, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Hi! Here's my draft and some notes for the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Vernae2/sandbox Vernae2 (talk) 23:07, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vernae2! I would just like to suggest that the draft should probably be rephrased for tone (e.g. avoiding addressing the reader as "you" and editorializing) to comply with the Wikipedia Manual of Style and writing policies. Cheers, Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 23:22, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My Contribution & Question Regarding Article Focus

[edit]

Hi folks! My name is Ike and my Social Web class assigned me to make a contribution to a Wikipedia article to understand the process of mass public information accumulation. My experience was great! I was able to bring a perspective to the discussion of livestreaming (the benefits it offers to the research community) that I do not see publicized in mainstream media. However, in the process, I feel I may have noticed a slight bias toward livestreaming in the article that I consistently also see on news outlets frightening parents of children interested in watching livestreams.

Before I made my, rather short, contribution, the article concluded in a detailed discussion of the Risks of livestreaming. The section seemed to focus (except for the final two sentences) on how ill-bent individuals utilized livestreaming as a platform for gaining notoriety for their ill deeds. However, by titling the section, "Risks," the result almost seemed to imply that individuals who livestream content or watching live-streamed content are susceptible to committing ill deeds themselves, a message that has no research backing to it.

Although I have a more positive-leaning toward the impact of well-moderated livestreams, after watching several famous livestreamers raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity in mere days through large platforms such as Twitch, I believe that the likely unintentional subliminal message sent by the organization of the Risks section could warrant an edit I am currently unsure of how to conduct. Could any contributors more senior to the Wikipedia community chime in? - post from Ike Kilinc

  • @Ike Kilinc: Thank you for your contribution and for raising the question here. In truth, I think there are several parts of the article that could be edited. I do believe the Risks section is appropriate, but I also don't know that it needs to include some of the very detailed examples that are in the article. The key overall at Wikipedia is that we strive for a neutral point of view (NPOV). If you believe that section is NOT neutral, you are welcome to suggest here on this Talk page how you might want to change it. What are some of the sentences you might remove?
If you want to add a section on "Positive activities" (that's not the best heading title, but you get the idea), then you could also suggest that here on this Talk page. The key is that everything we add needs to be verifiable by mentions in reliable sources. Thanks for your interest in improving Wikipedia. - Dyork (talk) 00:33, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency in spelling

[edit]

In this single article, “live stream”, “livestream” and “live-stream” are all used. I believe AP recently changed the style. No matter which is chosen, there should be consistency. 208.89.33.143 (talk) 18:34, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not just throughout the article, but even before the second paragraph starts all 3 are used. This definetley needs to be changed. 2601:240:8301:140:A16D:2AE0:9F9B:26C4 (talk) 06:02, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

LivestreamingLive streaming – This topic name seems more natural with the space (as a noun). If used as a verb (e.g., "We're livestreaming the lectures from the meeting room"), it might be OK without the space, but this is intended to be functioning as a noun. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:18, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This? And 5-to-3 (with one "Live-Streaming") in the headlines of the article's cited sources. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:01, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on now-concluded article move

[edit]

Thank you, 162 etc., for the courtesy ping about the now-concluded requested move (above). Unfortunately with year-end work deadlines and other activities I was not paying attention to Wikipedia notifications for the past couple of weeks and so missed the discussion. For the record, I have no issue with the change back to “live streaming”. I am sure I had some good rationale back in 2021 to move it to “livestreaming”, but two years later I certainly see usage both with and without a space, and so am fine with the change back. Again, thanks for the ping. - Dyork (talk) 08:30, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
