Title? Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles DVD) changed to Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles Video)... Why?

[edit]

Why should this be the title? It is the first time i am seeing such a title on Wikipedia. Why can't it be DVD instead of video? How many non-Wikipedians do you think will search for this live album with the actual name? ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:25, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And the speedy deletion tag is wrong since the article originally created was Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles DVD) itself. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is supposed to be 'video' Jivesh. They're releasing it in DVD, but who knows? They might later release it as a blu-ray disc or even a VHS! And, the csd tag should stay as this article is a copy-paste of Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles video). Novice7 (talk) 11:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is actually Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles video) which i the copy-paste. The article was moved. It was created with the DVD ending. And frankly Mags, Video???? All websites call it a DVD and Wikipedia will call it a Video. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:38, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And when it will chart, it will not be on Video charts but on DVD charts. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know Jivesh, it's a DVD. Are you sure that's the only format? No CD or bluray formats? Mariah Carey's The Adventures of Mimi was first released as a DVD, but was later re-released as a blu-ray. So, we can't confirm that it's only DVD. The article was first created with a DVD ending and it was moved to 'video', right? Novice7 (talk) 11:45, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's what happened. But it's very awkward to name it a s a video when all websites report it as a DVD. When you call something a video, it's more like a song video. Lol. And please take into consideration what i just wrote above, irrespective of what it is, i t will chart on DVD charts. Well, let's wait for others to add their opinions. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:48, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I hope your confusion is cleared now. It will chart on the DVD charts (although in a few countries, it's just the 'video chart'). After it is deleted, we can redirect this page to the moved article. Yes, we should wait for others' opinion too. Novice7 (talk) 11:53, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Should i contact them one by one like i always do? Lol. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 11:56, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 12:02, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should stay as 'DVD' for now. Until we know for sure there will be other formats, then it can be moved to 'video'. Oz talk 12:13, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very well-said. We should stick to the present. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 12:15, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DVD, for sure. Video is like saying VHS, and who has one of those still? Calvin NaNaNaC'mon! 12:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles video) is the correct title, per WP:MOS-ALBUM: "...(video) for video albums...". DVD is only a format, not a type of record releases, so we should not use it on page title. The infobox is also wrong, this is not a live album since it's only available on DVD. A "live album" must be released in audio CD and eligible to album charts. For example, Sticky & Sweet Tour is a live album, its CD version chart on Billboard 200 and its DVD chart on Billboard Top Music Videos. Bluesatellite (talk) 15:54, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please go in further details. Well what you posted is indeed interesting. I had no idea about this. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 16:29, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, how do you know it is not a live album? Don't you know it was a live concert? ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 16:32, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that dvd should not be in the title, it only detracts from the page. I am not sure about your claim that it is not a live album because its only available on dvd, I'm not an expert but the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_album does not mention that. Do you have any sources to back that up? Cause if so then a change to this page and the live album page is warranted.Millertime246 (talk) 16:04, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Per common definition, album is a collection of audio recordings (released on gramophone record, cassette, compact disc, etc), not video recordings. That's why RIAA and other certifying companies divide criterion of certification between albums (CD, cassette) and video releases (VHS, DVD). Live album is one of album's types, it is a collection of 'live' audio recordings, just like the CD version of Sticky & Sweet Tour. Live albums go to the albums charts (like Billboard 200), while video releases go to video chart (like Billboard Top Music Video). Bluesatellite (talk) 16:33, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So you assume a live album is one which charts on the Billboard 200? If yes, i have to say (with all respect i owe to you) that this definition of Wikipedia is not very logical. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 16:42, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know you are only referring to what /Wikipedia has written but i need your help here. How will you classify each of the following:

★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 16:46, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As long as they do not have audio releases (CD/cassete/LP) they are still video, not live albums. For example, Madonna has released many live concert DVD/VHS since 1986 to 2001, but I'm Going to Tell You a Secret [CD+DVD] (2005) is cited as her first live album.[1] Bluesatellite (talk) 17:02, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I really appreciate what you are doing but still, can you please classify the above releases for me? ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 17:07, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The correct is "Live at Roseland (Beyoncé Knowles Video)", because the format not relevant. Silencio faz bem (talk) 17:17, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, for Jives:

Remember, all of these collections are "video", but not all of them are "album" (live, remix). That's all :) Bluesatellite (talk) 17:30, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

May i remind you my name is Jivesh? Lol. And thank you very much for the clarifications. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 17:32, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clearing that up for me, it makes sense now.Millertime246 (talk) 17:34, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, thus we are to terms that this is a video album and not a live album then? —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 18:36, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... I don't get why a bunch of editors were notifed about this dicussion and I wasn't, as the person who moved in the first place... To the above discussion, we really need to clarify the whole live / video album thing. I don't get why "video" links to "music video" when live releases can be videos? Doesn't make sense to me, but this is for another time. Anyways, about the move; I think it has already been explained. Should it be titled "4 Live at Roseland" though? That's what Walmart, where it will be sold exclusively, calls it. And "4" is present on the cover. Status {talkcontribs 21:04, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You weren't notify as you were the one who requested for speedy deletion. So it is very obvious that you should have this page on your watch-list. And why do you want to name it as 4 Live at Roseland? Have you seen another website calling it as such? If yes, direct me to the link. The thing i sometimes do not like in Wikipedia is that you all kind of act as robots. You believe only what sources tell you. But it's very easy to differentiate between what is right and wrong, just like in this case, it is more than obvious that Live at Roseland: Elements of 4 would have been the most appropriate title. But Wikipedia usually uses the standard version, so i think the title should remain as Live at Roseland. And Status, before you start telling others that i am being rude, i just want to make it clear that it's quite the opposite and that the robot reference is not directed to you only or as a personal attack (like you usually call it). Regards. ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 02:22, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cool down Jivesh. No need to get angry. I think Blue has cleared the confusion. Wikipedia believes only what sources tell us, yes. The article should be Live at Roseland, because that's what the DVD cover says. Novice7 (talk) 03:28, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, the simple version is that relevant, and if it has "4 Live at Roseland" then this is its correct name. Silencio faz bem (talk) 00:49, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • For me the correct type would be "live album" because is a live DVD of a concert. In relation to the title on official website of singer the name of album is "Live at Roseland" (source) another thing "DVD" or "video" seem right for me, I not have a certain opinion this moment. Lucas Brígido Msg 01:04, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Should I repeat it again? As I said above, live concert DVD does not make it a "live album". Why is I'm Going to Tell You a Secret (2005) cited as Madonna's first live album, why not Live: The Virgin Tour (1985)? Bluesatellite (talk) 07:47, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just said my opinion, I thought that did not have a standard on this subject... about the name of the article, there are the two types of examples here, see Live from Las Vegas (video) or Live from Paris (U2 video) and Delta (DVD) or Live in Hawaii (Janet Jackson DVD). Not have a standard for this type of album?? Lucas Brígido Msg 11:52, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Again, this is the last one. Please see WP:MOS-ALBUM, we use '...(video)' for video releases, not DVD. I have moved those Janet and Delta DVDs to the correct title. Bluesatellite (talk) 15:19, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, one last question... Will this become a live album when it charts on an album chart? ★Jivesh 1205★ (talk / ♫♫Give 4 a try!!!♫♫) 15:39, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It will become a live album when it has audio format (CD or digital downloads). Only audio counterparts are allowed to enter the album charts. Bluesatellite (talk) 01:09, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think. Bluesatellite (talk) 01:09, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DVD

[edit]

Yesterday (Nov. 7), Sony Music hosted two screenings, just at different times (10 am and 12 am) for Beyoncé’s ‘Live at Roseland’ DVD at Sony’s NYC offices. Sony’s publicists’ Winnie Lam and Mike Navarra kindly greeted and walked in attendees into Sony’s theatre which included Rolling Stone, CNN Piers Morgan, Essence, Reuters, Concrete Loop’s Angel Laws, Ebony’s Kierna Mayo and Billboard.biz.

Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure of Parkwood Entertainment, shared a few words before cueing play, saying the DVD was a “labor of love” and was directed, edited and produced by Beyoncé, herself. Beyoncé’s concert DVD was directed by Beyoncé, Ed Burke and Anthony Green and executive produced by Beyoncé for Parkwood Entertainment, in association with Colombia Records.

‘Live At Roseland,’ will give fans an “up close and personal” look at Beyoncé. The 26-song live DVD documents Bey’s four nights at the Roseland Ballroom in August, “4 Intimate Nights with Beyoncé.” The DVD, played earlier today, included the complete Roseland concert series and never before seen personal footage from Bey.’ Bey’ shares footage of her times with Destiny’s Child, traveling and partying with family, the much talked about American Idol “1+1″ rehearsal clip, shot by husband Jay-Z, other performances and even a sneak peak at Beyoncé’s wedding dress.

Screening of the new concert DVD Sunday in New York - Beyonce talks performing while pregnant on new DVD

(Beyonce discusses performing while pregnant during an interview with The Associated Press' Alicia Quarles at the New York screening for her new concert DVD, "Live at Roseland." (Nov. 20))

It became particularly difficult for her to hide the growing baby bump when the Grammy-winner performed for four nights to sold-out crowds at New York's Roseland Theater in August. "When you're pregnant, it's a little bit harder to breathe, so it was hard doing all the choreography and singing at the same time," said the 30-year-old singer in an onstage interview. Fans who didn't get a chance to catch "The Intimate Nights" shows - what Beyoncé said was her last concert performance of the year - can get a behind-the-scenes look in her new "Live at Roseland" DVD, available exclusively at Walmart this week. Along with classics from her Destiny's Child days and major hits from her solo career, the DVD includes interviews with the singer, home footage of rehearsals and special family moments - even shots of Beyoncé in a wedding gown. She's also hoping the film will serve as a time capsule for her unborn child, a chance for him or her to say, "I can't believe I was in that belly," she said. Beyoncé graced her premiere in a Cavalli dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and YSL shoes.

Critical Reception

[edit]

"The fact that the 30-year-old was pregnant at the time of the shows makes the series of performances even more special, and it is noticeable that she tentatively touches her stomach every time she says the word 'baby' or talks about love. Live At Roseland is certainly an interesting and thorougly entertaining watch ironically that gives a never-before-seen insight into the real Bey away from the stage and spotlight, while at the same time celebrating her historic career in music." http://uk.omg.yahoo.com/news/review-beyonce-live-roseland-elements-4-081627528.html

"What followed was moving, inspirational and infectious. Immaculately produced, Beyoncé’s voice cut through the screen and entered the room. The stories she told, from her early days as a 9-year-old at Destiny’s Child‘s first audition to the conception of 4, were compelling and endearing, her giggles met with the audience’s giggles, her love completely sincere, and again, met with the audience’s love. After performing her pre-4 medley, Beyoncé performed 4 in its entirety, and the one thing that struck us was that even in the slower songs like “I Miss You” and “1 + 1″, there wasn’t one yawn-inducing moment. Tight and succinct, there’s no filler in the Live At Roseland DVD — it’s high energy from the beginning to the end, and doesn’t give you a chance to lag or lose interest. Indeed, we were shouting “Again, again!” by the time the credits rolled. With montages of footage of Beyoncé as a little girl, with Destiny’s Child, on holiday with her husband Jay-Z, the experience is a disarmingly intimate one, and left us feeling somehow closer and more connected to the performer, despite our privy to these moments being shared with a theatre filled with people. So there’s the magic of Beyoncé — even when she’s speaking to the masses, she’s really speaking to you, and you alone. Live At Roseland: Elements Of 4 does just that, giving you your own personal evening with Beyoncé. We came out understanding the phenomenon better, from her early experiences writing songs like “Independent Woman” and “Survivor” to her now all-female ensemble, Beyoncé’s force became undeniable. What comes across most in the DVD is her fearlessness, absolute grace and ultimate humility. And that as a role model, she goes against the grain of current trends favoring “I am an outcast” and “insecurity is OK.” She stands before you, Live at Roseland, and says “I am here. And I am wonderful. You are, too.” You’ll cry. You’ll dance. You’ll sing along. And you’ll definetly reach the end credits thinking that you want to be more like Beyoncé." http://www.vh1.com/music/tuner/2011-11-21/beyonce-premieres-her-live-at-roseland-elements-of-4-dvd-in-new-york/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.200.163 (talk) 00:12, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Background? Or Process

[edit]

“The whole time I definitely was thinking, ‘Everyone knows, everyone can see,’” said B while recalling the performances prior to her big reveal at the VMAs. After seeing her fans line up in the rain to attend her four sold-out concerts at New York’s Roseland Ballroom over the summer, B was determined to give them a good show. “I just wanted to give everything I could,” she explained. But while you may have not noticed, her pregnancy did take a tole of her live performances. “When you’re pregnant, it’s a little bit harder to breathe, so it was hard doing all the choreography and singing at the same time,” she said. “I just got my strength from all the love from the fans.” She knows a super fan when she sees one. “I can see all of my super fans in the audience when I’m performing because they’re doing the choreography harder than me,” she laughed. “Some of the fans were like, ‘B, you better put me in this DVD.’ So I made sure I did.” http://www.rap-up.com/2011/11/21/beyonce-speaks-on-pregnancy-devoted-fans-at-roseland-screening/#more-105087

I think this is very important, change the perspective of as we see this DVD, being pregnant and with the corresponding difficulties, it shows her bravery and quality as an artist. Beyond that it's simply curious to exist here the information of that she was pregnant while they made this 4 concerts and Roseland DVD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.168.200.163 (talk) 00:35, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The New Yorker:The Best Music of 2011: The American Singers

Her new live DVD captures the tightly corralled ecstasies of her four-day run at Roseland this past August, and includes all the videos from “4.” The Roseland show was split into very predictable halves—the first was a narrated medley of her career up until “4,” including politic comments on breaking with her manager (Matthew Knowles, her father) and her time as the Diana Ross of Destiny’s Child. The second half was a sequential run-through of “4,” which served the torch songs (“1 + 1”) well but blurred the edges of high-definition pattern tracks like "Countdown.” It was thrilling to watch. Beyoncé was simply born to be on stage, wear shiny clothes, and work a room—but because Beyoncé means it, wants it, has the voice, and knows whom to hire to flesh out her ideas.

After thoroughly reviewing this article, I am pleased to tell you that it has passed and is good article status. The article has very nice prose and layout, and the couple of issues that I found with the article were minor enough so that I could fix them myself. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
