Interpretation
[edit]The way I understood the song, the first verse is spoken by the person who has the illness, not that person's son. Is there clear evidence that the presented view is correct (comments by McGraw, etc.)? Samer (talk) 22:06, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I'm confused by this bit, "And all of a sudden goin' fishi',/ Wasn't such an imposition/ And I went three times that year I lost my Dad."
Perhaps the cause of my confusion is the fact that three times a year seems like an awful lot of fishing to me. I go perhaps once a year. To some people, this line may sound like "only three times."
Is the speaker here saying, "back in that year when I lost my Dad, I only went fishing three times, because I regarded it as an imposition, but now that I know I'm dying, I go much more often."? --Christofurio (talk) 18:24, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
