Cheyenne name

[edit]

I'm wondering where the citation of the name as Ho-han-i-no-o comes from. The site of Wayne Leman (the foremost Cheyenne linguist) gives "Little Rock" as Ho'honahke. The first part of Ho-han-i-no-o (Ho-han(-i)-) is obviously connected to the first part of Ho'honahke (Ho'hon(a)-), and I'm not sure which name is "correct" (though the spelling Leman uses is in the modern standardized orthography, and the other is in the ever-shifting ad hoc spellings used by people in the 1800s). I'm sure there is a cite for Ho-han-i-no-o, but I'm just kind of looking to confirm it or something, I guess. --Miskwito 07:22, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hō-hăn-ĭ-no-o′ can be found in: Grinnell, George Bird. (2004)[1916] "The Fighting Cheyennes" Smithsonian Institutions Handbook of North American Indians Bulletin 30. It is on page 291 in the chapter titled "Battle of Washita". However, in this article, if possible, we should have the current orthography in it with the recorded Smithsonian orthography in parentheses or as a footnote or some other referencing. The version I had came from the Hardorff book included in the reference list. But I had questions about it, so thanks for fixing it! --Yksin 00:04, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
