Educational Version
[edit]An audio version of this book, edited for second language learners, is being put online by the Chinese Newspaper Ming Pao. (The book is in public domain in Hong Kong and China.)

I suggest that both this version and the gutenberg.ca version should be included in 'External links'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.77.216.253 (talk) 06:49, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Online Copy of the Book
[edit]I know that this book is still under copyright in the USA. However in many other parts of the world it has entered the public domain. Should this article link to an online copy?

Troubling section of the book
[edit]There's a section of the book that describes a character imagining to fight and hunt Indians:
"I began to play I was a mighty hunter, stalking the wild animals and the Indians. I played I was fighting the Indians, until all woods seemed full of wild men, and then all at once I heard the birds twittering 'good night.'"
This article mentions that the book doesn't contain themes like danger from Indians, though this section touches upon it. The phrasing of this conflict as danger from Indians is somewhat biased, often times when Native people were involved in conflict the Native people were doing so to protect mothers, children and older members of their society.
