Unsolved problems in medicine? Or philosophy?

[edit]

In the Calvin and Hobbes strip for October 29, 1990, Calvin remarked, "In my opinion, we don't devote nearly enough scientific research to finding a cure for jerks." Where would the question of whether this is feasible or even possible go? A cure for this condition would likely prove a considerable benefit for humanity. --Shay Guy 22:44, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What about unsolved humanitarian or political problems? Please clearly state that this is a list of scientific problems only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.207.162.102 (talk) 14:56, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's just a navigational collection of links to articles (A "Disambiguation" page). Anything with the title "Unsolved problems in [foo]" gets listed here. If those articles on humanitarian and political problems existed, they would be linked here. -- Quiddity (talk) 20:51, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

What happened to "unsolved problems in history"? Böri (talk) 13:56, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure one ever existed? There's no sign of one in the history of this page or the template's page, and no deletion log at Unsolved problems in history or List of unsolved problems in history. I think it may be not-yet-written... -- Quiddity (talk) 18:52, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe not on this article but a few years ago I saw an article like that. And there was another one: "Unsolved problems in Egyptology"! Böri (talk) 08:36, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It should've turned up in a search though. The Egyptology article did; it was deleted in 2007 after this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of unsolved problems in Egyptology (Second nomination). (It can be recreated, if after reading the deletion discussion you think that might be a supported idea. See Wikipedia:Viewing and restoring deleted pages for details on getting access to the deleted material, in order to see what the problems were specifically.) Some of the problems / unknowns mentioned on the following pages may be important enough to list on an "unsolved problems in history" page: --DavidCary (talk) 14:53, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unresolved Problems in Gender Studies

[edit]

The humanities seem to be under represented here. I'm not a subject expert myself, but surely within the rigorous fields of inquiry that exist under the humanities banner, there are hotly contested unresolved questions that remain a topic on contention among the experts? 202.155.85.18 (talk) 01:57, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Carl and Mary Dennie were on unsolved mysteries.. I know where he is Angel3040 (talk) 16:43, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to merge Lists_of_unsolved_problems with Open_problem. I think that the lists can easily be given as a section of the main article, and the main article is of a reasonable size that the merging of the lists will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Jamgoodman (talk) 15:49, 11 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Which direction do you want the merging to go? OP into the lists or vice versa? I think merging Open Problems into the "Lists" article is better, but am not in favor of either move. Sanpitch (talk) 02:37, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Sanpitch, thanks for the response. I was planning to move 'lists' into 'OP'. Why do you think merging Open Problems into the "Lists" article is better? And why are you not in favour of either move?Jamgoodman (talk) 13:21, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I now think that it does seem reasonable to somehow combine the 'lists' and 'OP' pages.
If you move 'lists' into 'OP' would you also change all the other "Unsolved problems" pages? Would List of unsolved problems in computer science become List of open problems in computer science? It seems a simpler change to move 'Open Problem' to 'Unsolved problem', then merge 'Lists of Open Problems' into that page. Sanpitch (talk) 23:03, 21 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Surprised not to see Unsolved problem in logic

[edit]

I understand they are covered within other disciplines (math, computer science, philosophy...), but think it also deserves its own page Darth Pro 6 (talk) 11:40, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
