Earthquake lists
[edit]This article is the first part of an attempt to combine the list of earthquakes from the USGS with those from other sources in a single list for a particular period in a common format, so that users only need to look at one list if they are searching for a particular event. Mikenorton (talk) 15:58, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- The eventual plan is to replace the generic 'USGS' in the source column with a specific reference(s) for all events taken from the USGS list. Mikenorton (talk) 08:25, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Gori?
[edit]And this? Is not in the list! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1920_Gori_earthquake —Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.57.2.137 (talk) 20:04, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
What???
[edit]The comments column has entries such as "M" and "M" with a subscript. I can findno legend explaining these things. This must be corrected. We can't just thrown undefined (technical?) symbols.211.225.30.91 (talk) 07:20, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
1966 Tashkent
[edit]The Tashkent page says it was a 7.5 magnitude, cannot see it here
Wikiak (talk) 05:16, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
- The USGS have it as 5.0, not sure where the higher figure comes from. The USGS figure isn't always absolutely correct, but it's never that wrong. I'm guessing that it was actually a seismic intensity of 7.5, but I haven't found an accesible source for that. Mikenorton (talk) 22:51, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Usoi earthquake
[edit]The Usoi_Dam article says a richter 6.5 or 7 earthquake created it on 18th of feb 1911, this article Bartang_River says estimated between 8 and 9, while the Sarez_Lake article says estimated at 6.5-7.0 on the Richter scale, occurred about midnight, 5-6 February, 1911 (old style).
but this [1] says it was a 7.4 magnitude quake on 18th of feb 1911. I don't see any mention of it - anyone know the strength of the earthquake - and where the epicentre was? EdwardLane (talk) 16:37, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- I've added the 1911 Sarez earthquake (as it seems to be called) to the list with a date of February 2. I am also intending to generate a short article on it - currently in preparation. As to magnitude, the scientific papers that I've found give it a value of 7.4 - 7.6 on the surface wave magnitude scale. Mikenorton (talk) 23:34, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
